Orbiting Cleveland: The book on Zach McAllister

Ace. Has there ever been a more ambiguous term in the baseball realm? For a game as grounded in statistics as baseball, it’s amazing how there has never been a concrete answer as to how we define an ace. Some define an ace as the best starting pitcher on each team while others see an ace as a pitcher who will be among the league leaders in several statistical categories. For me...

2013 Key Players: Carlos Santana

The fourth installment of my 2013 Cleveland Indians Key Player series will focus on Carlos Santana. After previously covering Justin Masterson, Lonnie Chisenhall, and Jason Kipnis, we’ll be discussing the Indians’ catcher and his importance to the upcoming season. In the midst of a breakout minor league campaign, the Indians acquired Carlos Santana in the 2008 Casey Blake...

2013 Spring Training Game #34: Indians 4, Padres 6

Some Tribe fans may have had flashbacks to opening day 2012 watching Thursday’s bout between the Indians and Padres in Peoria, Arizona. Justin Masterson shined in five innings of work leaving with a 3-2 lead. In the seventh, closer Chris Perez came in and not only blew the lead, but gave up four runs on five hits including a pair of 2-run bombs. Thankfully, it was just a spring...

Cleveland Indians make parody of Apple Siri (VIDEO)

YouTube The Cleveland Indians are funny guys.  They’re a team chock full of personalities.  It starts with manager Terry Francona and continues with newly-signed outfielder Nick Swisher, second baseman Jason Kipnis, catcher Carlos Santana.  They have a good time. Recently, they filmed a little commercial touting “TERRi” (after Francona) parodying the iPhone’s Siri.  Like...

Who are the Most Intriguing Prospects in 2013?

Today concludes my so-called "adjective" series in which I have looked at various levels of Cleveland's minor league system with different adjectives in mind. It started with the prospects with the most to prove, continued with the most exciting and impressive prospects, and ends today with the most intriguing prospects. This list may be my favorite because it looks...

Indians grabbing new fans with viral videos

By Tony LastoriaSpecial to FOX Sports Ohio The excitement surrounding the Cleveland Indians this spring has a central focus - new manager Terry Francona. Since the day Francona was hired on October 6th, he has brought a new energy and vibe not seen in the clubhouse in years if ever. His style is completely different than that of predecessors Eric Wedge and Manny Acta. Wedge and...

Don't knock the Rock!

Two important dates are quickly approaching – Easter Sunday and Opening Day! Both of these days will always be remembered in Tribe history. On Easter Sunday, April 17, 1960 – the day before Opening Day – Frank “Trader” Lane made the most hated trade in Cleveland Indians franchise history.  Rocky Colavito, the 1959 A.L. home-run champ (42) was traded for Harvey Kuenn, the...

2013 Minor League Spring Game Recap: March 29th

Friday represented the final day of inter-organization exhibition games for the Indians' farmhands. Players will practice and play a camp game on Saturday, and then by the time they leave the complex they will know where they have been assigned. Tony has all the stats from the five games played on Friday and provides some insight on where some players are going this season and more.

2013 Season Expectations

There has been no season in recent history where the Indians have entered the season feeling so positive. Everything started with the signing of Terry Francona which completely changed the perspective of everyone in Cleveland. A slew of big free agent signing filled all the holes in the roster when it had looked prior to the end of the season that they would be filled internally...
