This team has a lot of intriguing guys on the roster. Some who are looking to build upon what they did in 2012 and some who are looking to rebound from 2012. The Blue Wahoos have 13 of my Top 40 Prospects on their roster.
The starting rotation already took a hit and the season hasn’t begun. The Blue Wahoos announced a rotation of Tim Crabbe, Ryan Dennick, Yohan Pino, Daniel Renken and Chad Rogers. Then the Reds told Logan Ondrusek he didn’t make the team out of spring training and they optioned him to Pensacola to work with Tom Brown, which led to Ryan Dennick being moved up to Louisville. That leaves open a spot in the rotation, but my guess would be that Josh Smith will move into the rotation for the time being and fill that role. Rogers and Smith are both coming off of strong 2012 seasons. Rogers finished the year with a 2.90 ERA in 143 innings between Bakersfield and Pensacola. Smith...

The Reds will be without left fielder and clean-up hitter Ryan Ludwick for a while, as the club announced Tuesday that they will place him on the 15-day disabled list. A corresponding move will be announced prior to Wednesday's Opening Night game against the Angels.
Ludwick is slated to undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair torn cartilage in his right shoulder. The 34-year...
CINCINNATI Brandon Phillips wasnt wearing a pointy hat with moons and stars on it as he stood in front of a media conference before Opening Day.He should have. He proved to be quite the wizard, quite the reader of the future. The Grand Plan all spring was for Phillips to bat second in the Cincinnati Reds batting order for the entire 2013 season.Asked about it, he said prophetically...
CINCINNATI For one day, at least, Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker can say that four major questionable components of his team are solvent.
ONE: Can Todd Frazier replace Scott Rolen at third base with no noticeable dissipation of offense and defense?
TWO: Can Shin-Soo Choo play center field and provide the team with the leadoff hitter theyve tried to find for a decade?
Ryan Ludwick dislocated his shoulder yesterday. That is certainly a different injury than a separated shoulder. The injury is almost guaranteed to lead to a trip to the DL for Ludwick, the question is how long. I have been asked several times in the three hours since the injury was announced, so I will just address it here.
No matter how long of a trip Ludwick is expected to see...

This Dayton Dragons team could be the most talented among the full season teams to begin the season. They have eight of my Top 40 Prospects on the team to begin the season, including the top pitcher.
The starting rotation is full of potential, led by the top pitching prospect in the organization...
Cincinnati Reds left fielder Ryan Ludwick, who dislocated his shoulder during the first game of the year on Monday, has been placed on the DL, and will miss at least 13 weeks after surgery to repair torn cartilage. He'll be replaced on the active roster by Derrick Robinson, and it's expected that Chris Heisey will get most of the reps in left field while Ludwick is hurt....
Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick is expected to miss at least three months following surgery on Wednesday to repair torn cartilage in his right shoulder.
Ludwick dislocated his non-throwing shoulder while sliding into third base in Cincinnati's opening 3-1, 13-inning loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. An MRI a day later found the cartilage tear.
The Reds initially were reluctant...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Joey Votto's first hit of the season wasn't all that pretty, but the timing and placement were perfect.
Votto's hard grounder deflected off the glove of first baseman Albert Pujols and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night, sending the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
Opening day in the Minor League season is upon us. Bakersfield hasn’t announced their opening day starter yet, but the other three teams have. Louisville and Dayton both get started at 6:35 tonight. Tony Cingrani will take the mound at home for Louisville. Robert Stephenson will toe the rubber on the road for Dayton. Pensacola will get things rolling at home at 8:00 this evening...
Brandon Phillips hit a three-run homer in his new role as Cincinnati's cleanup hitter, and Joey Votto drove in the winning run with a ninth-inning single Wednesday night, rallying the Reds to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
They've split the first two games of the first interleague series to open a season.
