When I was a kid, there was nothing like the feeling I got when the local candy store busted out the new edition of Topps Baseball Cards. I couldn’t wait to start tearing open those waxpacks, tossing out the gum and desperately start thumbing through them all hoping to find a Met. Five bucks and ten waxpacks later, I’d be lucky if had 5-6 Mets baseball cards – and that included doubles – I hated doubles! Know the feeling?
I was a team collector and the fun of it for me was hand collating my own Mets team sets. What’s that you ask? Oh, yes, I still have them.
Topps has already released their 2013 Series 1 baseball cards for the year, and my first reaction to seeing them was… Total bummer!
When the Mets tweeted the Ike Davis card this week, I decided to do some exploring to find out which Mets made the cut.
What a shock… No Josh Edgin, no Matt Harvey, and no David Wright… And as for their rookie card, no Zack Wheeler! Really?
Read ‘em and weep…
Here they are and right off the bat, I ...

Outfield alert: Mets sign Marlon Byrd
When your team has an outfield situation as desperate as the Mets’ is (Andrew Brown is going to compete for a starting job after having trouble staying on Colorado’s major league roster in 2012), any new is good news. Mets still in the relief market..
Jon Heyman just tweeted that the Mets are still in the relief market after signing LaTroy Hawkins. Like I said as long as Hawkins isn't the primary guy they sign to back-up Francisco then its a very good move. It appears that the Mets will bring in another former closer whether it's Wilson, Krod or even a return of Rauch...

Alderson Mets still have OF options
Even after the Marlon Byrd signing Marc Carig of Newsday tweeted that Sandy Alderson says the Mets still have options for the outfield. Many have speculated in the last few hours that Byrd along with the other outfield candidates have essentially ended any pursuit of Michael Bourn. Don't forget the Mets signed veteran Fred Lewis last season and tucked him away in AAA until...
MMO Book Review: Swinging ’73: Baseball’s Wildest Season
A couple of weeks ago, the great Mets historian and author Matt Silverman, was nice enough to give me a sneak preview into his newest publication, Swinging ’73: Baseball’s Wildest Season. The verdict is in, and Matt has done it again – delivering another Amazin’ Book that should be a part of every Met fan’s library.
This isn’t your regular everyday telling of the “Ya...

Russ Canzler and why it is worth it for the Mets to take a chance on
OF/1B Russ Canzler was designated for assignment for the forth time this offseason, this time by the New York Yankees. What separates Canzler from, lets say Nick Evans, is the fact that he never clears waivers, explaining how he has gone from Cleveland to Toronto, back to Cleveland to the Yankees, all since last season ended. Last year, Chris Schwinden went on a similar path, being...
