The Colorado Rockies had some higher expectations last season. They signed free agent OF Michael Cuddyer and traded for INF Marco Scutaro with the hopes of having a strong offense. Unfortunately, they misread the lack of MLB ready starting pitching they had and the season turned into a disaster. It was made worse by the injuries to SS Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton and being without Carlos Gonzalez and Cuddyer for parts of the season.
The roots of what destroyed the Rockies in 2012 was their silly change in pitching philosophy. The decision to use a 4 man rotation with a cap of 60-70 pitches was a crazy idea and the results prove that. In my opinion, it derailed the development of some of their younger pitchers. The question is whether they will get away from this program or not. They need to abandon it if they want their pitchers to develop. They have some talented starters: Drew Pomeranz, Alex White, Jorge De la Rosa, Jhoulys Chacin, Juan Nicasio and Tyler Chatwood to name a...

Nolan Arenado‘s development has been a roller coaster ride. From prospect with major helium, to disappointment with maturity issues, the third baseman lost his luster this off-season.
With four home runs in his first 17 at bats this spring, Arenado is all the rage again as he attempts to wrangle the third base job away from the combo of Chris Nelson and Jordan Pacheco.
Colorado Rockies infielder Troy Tulowitzki takes part in the latest video from the MLB Fan Cave where he promotes Evoshield wristguards as part of an infomercial parody inspired by the classic Wax Vac commercial.
As far as we know, no one was hurt during the making of this commercial...except for maybe the guy who got pelted with all the whiffle balls.

For those wondering why Charlie Blackmon has not played at all since March 1st, we now have an answer. The Rockies' outfielder and battling a knee infection. He should return at some point this spring, but there is not a time table for his recovery.
Thomas Harding of MLB.com had the news:
#Rockies #LosRockies OF Charlie Blackmon is out with a knee infection. Hasn...
Jeff Francis moved closer to locking up a rotation spot with the Colorado Rockies with another scoreless performance on Tuesday,
Francis, 32, has threw four scoreless innings allowing just a hit against the Cubs. The left handed Francis has now thrown nine scoreless innings and has not walked a batter in three spring appearances.
Colorado has as many as three rotation spots up for...
Brandon Phillips got four hits for Team USA, but the Colorado Rockies rallied for five runs in the ninth inning for an 8-7 win Wednesday night.
The final score was a bit misleading - the Rockies' comeback came against a pair of Colorado minor league pitchers borrowed by the U.S. squad to finish out the game.
It was the final tuneup for the United States before it begins World...
Inspired by the classic Wax Vac infomercial, the funny guys at in the MLB Fan Cave put this little diddy together starring Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (and a Dustin Pedroia doppelganger).
Tulo is endorsing a wrist sleeve known as the Evo Shield, which protects your body against injury much more effectively than cotton swabs. Fact: cotton swabs do not mmold to your body.
Time to check on the local media following the COLORADO ROCKIES Newspaper- Once a two newspaper town, Denver is now served only by the Denver Post. Its online sports section includes dedicated coverage of the Rockies. Beat writers Troy Renck (Twitter) and Patrick Saunders (Twitter) also write for the On the Rox Blog. The always entertaining
Todd Helton got his first hit of spring training and Jeff Francis pitched four scoreless innings Tuesday to carry the Colorado Rockies to a 6-2 victory over the Cubs, snapping a three-game losing streak.
Helton, a .320 hitter who was limited to 69 games and hit a career-low .238 while struggling with hip problems last season, gave Colorado a-1-0 lead in the first with an opposite...
Instead of worrying about which no-name WR ran the best 40 time or who didn’t get franchised, we decided to turn our focus on baseball. Oh, sweet baseball, how we’ve missed you.
Spring training might be one of the best times of the year. Fans can go to Arizona or Florida and enjoy the sun, day drinking and bad baseball instead of being cooped up in a ****** office in Ohio, Pittsburgh...
We once called Laura McKeeman “The Next Erin Andrews.” She’s Miss Florida 2012. She’s dating Colorado Rockies infielder Josh Rutledge. And now comes news to us that McKeeman will be your 2013 Padres sideline reporter.
Yesterday’s Padres game just happened to be on the office television when I caught McKeeman giving a report about something that wasn’t really that important...
