For a second straight night the Red Sox offense was in sync and they pounded out 11 runs against the Mariners. Starting pitching was dominant, one of Doubronts best outings of the season and set the tone for the Sox all night long. Here are the 3 stars of the game:
Star 3: Shane Victorino
Victornio had a 2-4 night before being subbed out by JBJ for defensive purposes. He had 2 RBI's and 1 run scored. His 2 RBI night brought his season total to 24 both which were earned on singles in the fourth and sixth inning.
Star 2: David Ortiz
Ortiz quickly became the all time leader in hits while being the DH. He did this with a double in his first at bat of the night, in the second inning. Ortiz went 2-3 on the night with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. He hit his 19th home run of the season, a 2 run shot in the third inning.
Star 1: Felix Doubront
Doubront had a great night, handing in one of the best performances he has had all season. He pitched 7 inning...

The Red Sox had quite the game Tuesday night, and it’s no coincidence that David Ortiz had a big game, too.
The Boston designated hitter was once again the power behind the Sox’ attack, going 4-for-5 with a homer run as Boston racked up 16 hits and five home runs on its way to its 11-8 win over the Mariners.
On top of the win, the night also marked several special occasions for...
Felix Doubront had another strong outing and David Ortiz had a record-breaking night as the Red Sox pounded the Seattle Mariners 11-4 Wednesday night.
Doubront shutout the Mariners for six innings before giving up a two-out run in the seventh. Doubront threw 107 pitches with six strikeouts and only two walks. Doubront did not allow a base runner beyond...
Most 9-year-old boys would be thrilled to spend a birthday at the ballpark, and when you’re David Ortiz‘ son, the celebration is anything but ordinary.
During the team’s game against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, the Red Sox’ designated hitter brought a cake from the dugout to his son, D’Angelo, in the stands, according to Peter Abraham. D’Angelo turns 9 on Wednesday...
Boston's David Ortiz has passed Harold Baines to become Major League Baseball's career leader in hits by a designated hitter.
Ortiz collected his 1,689th hit as a DH when he doubled to left-center field leading off the second inning Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners. Ortiz received a loud ovation from the fans at Safeco Field when the milestone was shown on the...
D’Angelo Ortiz may have had the best ninth birthday ever, thanks to his Papi.
According to Pete Abraham, D’Angelo has been traveling with David Ortiz and the Sox since their series in Anaheim and for the first two games against Seattle. For his birthday on Wednesday, he took batting practice and stretched with the team before the game.
David Ortiz is on the cusp of history.
With one hit on Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners, the Red Sox slugger will become the all-time hits leader at the designated hitter position. Big Papi had 1,952 hits heading into Wednesday night’s matchup, with 429 career home runs and 1,388 RBIs.
Red Sox manager John Farrell knows that Ortiz is nowhere near finished, and that...
After sitting out two games with a wrist injury, Jacoby Ellsbury is back in the Red Sox lineup Wednesday, hitting leadoff and patrolling center field.
Daniel Nava and Jackie Bradley Jr. took over the center field duties in Ellsbury’s absence and got their fair share of conditioning in the two games due to Seattle spraying the ball all over the field. The Mariners have put up 19...
Manny Ramirez sounds like a changed man. Just ask David Ortiz.
Ortiz, who formed a potent 3-4 combo with Ramirez in Boston from 2003 to 2008, said on WEEI’s Salk & Holley Show Wednesday that he keeps in touch with his former teammate and that he has noticed a great deal of change in the 41-year-old slugger.
“He’s a totally different person,” Ortiz said. “I’m really...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Overcoming a poor start by their rookie starter and an apparent injury to their first reliever, the Red Sox used an offensive explosion at the plate, and, most improbably, six innings of one-run ball from their...
(Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)The players must have heard all the talk about a 'power shortage' in the Red Sox lineup. Last night, no such shortage existed as David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Mike Napoli, Jackie Bradley, Jr. and Shane Victorino all went deep in an 11-8 bounce-back victory for Boston. Two promising young starters were anything but, as both Boston's Allen Webster...
The beginning of the game was rough to watch and then the game continued to drag on, so most of Red Sox Nation missed the end of the game, but if you were one of the few that stayed up to watch the whole game you saw an offensive explosion by both teams. They combined for 19 runs and 29 hits. Here are the 3 stars of the game:
Star 3: Dustin Pedroia...
It’s safe to say the Boston bats just took a 2.5-game hiatus and have been safely returned to the Red Sox clubhouse.
After back-to-back 11-run games, the Boston Red Sox (56-37) go for their third win in a row against the Seattle Mariners (40-51). David Ortiz became the all-time hits leader for a designated-hitter when he roped a double in his...
The Boston Red Sox will start their final series before the all-star break Friday night against the Oakland Athletics at O.co Coliseum. The Red Sox will send quite possibly the American League Comeback Player of the Year on the mound to start the series. John Lackey got off to a slow start in his return from elbow surgery, which sidelined him for the entire 2012 season. The pitcher...
