It is that time again for the weekly 3 Up and 3 Down column.  As always, thanks for reading and you can contact me through facebook, twitter @gmarchesej, email at gmarchesej@aol.com and under this article. The three up for this week are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who flexed their financial might,  Matt Harvey, as he made his major league debut and one other successful start and Joba Chamberlain, who returned to the big leagues after 14 months away. 3 Up Los Angeles Dodgers:The Dodgers were sold to a group led by former NBA player Magic Johnson earlier this year.  They are ½ a game out of first place in the NL West and they made several moves at Tuesdays trade deadline.  They acquired reliever Brandon League from the Mariners.  They also acquired Hanley Ramirez from the Marlins and Shane Victorino from the Phillies.  Things are looking up in Hollywood for Donnie Baseball and the Dodgers. Matt Harvey has looked very impressive in his two major league starts with the Mets.  In his first...

Reports Indicate the Los Angeles Dodgers Claimed Cliff Lee on Waivers; Phillies Claimed Some Players

The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be the team who placed a waiver claim on Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee.  The Dodgers, of course, also put a claim on Joe Blanton and the two sides worked out a deal.  But please relax, the waiver claim means nothing. After July 31, a player must clear waivers to be traded.    Teams have the chance just once to place a player on waivers.   Players...

Rocky Mountain High

Admit it, you were worried after that Dodgers series. The Dodgers are way too close, and there’s a dash of fear…or more…that the offense was just the result of being in Coors and facing the Rockies’ pitchers.  But damn, that sort of offense does feel a bit good. Not that I’m turning my back on AT&T Park…or thinking about bringing in the fences…or doing anything...

Dodgers hoping to 'live long and prosper'

The Dodgers celebrated Star Trek night on Friday as several Spocks and Klingons meandered the concourse and William Shatner threw out the first pitch before introducing the Dodger lineup. How appropriate that Los Angeles is venturing to boldly spend what no team has spent before. No, they're not the Yankees, but on a day in which they added Joe Blanton and the 2.9 million dollars...

Capps' heat arrives in majors for Mariners

Seattle Mariners right-hander Carter Capps threw his first major league pitch Friday night in Yankee Stadium. New York Yankees catcher Russell Martin was at the plate. The pitch was clocked at 100 mph. The American League better get used to seeing that kind of heat. Ever since Capps, a third-round pick out of North Carolina's Mount Olive College in 2011, made the jump from...
