Third baseman Kevin Youkilis has become the latest New York Yankee to land on the disabled list. Youkilis has a sprain in his back – a lumbar spine sprain – that has caused him to miss eight of the Yankees’ nine games between April 20 and April 30. Youkilis played on Saturday, April 27, against the Toronto Blue Jays but missed the next two games after feeling discomfort. Youkilis said he felt ready to play on Saturday but felt enough discomfort to miss Sunday and Monday’s games. Said Youkilis, "It was just one of those things waking up, and I didn't feel right. Sometimes, after your adrenaline's gone, things occur to you. We've just got to find out what's going on." An April 29 MRI turned up negative, but Youkilis may receive an epidural injection to help ease the pain. He will be eligible to return on May 12, but he could miss more time. The Yankees have called up Corban Joseph from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill Youkilis’s roster spot. Corban was hitting .273 with four home runs in 22 games at his callup. His first appearance will mark Joseph’s Major League debut.  Jayson Nix figures to get the bulk of the playing time at third base in Youkilis’s absence.  Sources: Bryan Hoch, Sprained Back Forces Youkilis to Disabled List, yankees.mlb.com, April 30, 2013. Yankees: Champions are winners not survivors

Old? MAYDAY…survivors or MAY DAY winners? The oldest; the average age is 31.9 years. Injured? A DL (disabled list) that reads like an All-Star roster – Jeter, A-Rod, Grandy, Tex, Youks, Cervelli, Nova, and Pineda. Expectations? Exceeding. This team was projected to fall down, not rise up. So far the New York Yankees are not the big disappointments everyone, myself included...

Yankeeography Focusing on Michael was Long Overdue

YES Network finally got around to putting together and airing a “Yankeeography’’ featuring Gene Michael. Perhaps I’m a bit prejudiced about the production, but I think it is one of the best this outstanding series has aired. “Oh, I was lucky with a lot of those trades that went down,’’ said Michael, 74, who has been the Yankees’ “Super Scout,’’ officially Senior...

R.A. Dickey didn't like Yankees' 'Eye-Gate' stall tactic

R.A. Dickey had just been rocked by Lyle Overbay's two-run homer as the Toronto Blue Jays knuckleballer got ready to throw one of his gimmicky pitches to the next batter. In the New York Yankees bullpen, David Robertson — who had just caught Overbay's dinger — was warming up to preserve the 3-2 Yankees lead. Out in front of the dugout was that next batter — Eduardo...

New York Yankees Trade For Chris Nelson

The New York Yankees made a minor move, acquiring infielder Chris Nelson from the Colorado Rockies who had recently been designated for assignment.
