Burning River Baseball:

Player of the Game
Asdrubal Cabrera provided the only 2 Indians hits through the first 8 innings: a solo home run and a double. His score of 3.83 gives him a total of 7 Player of the Game awards this season. This was his first one since June 28th.
Chris Seddon pitched a strong game, with just 2 costly mistakes. The first run scored by the Sox was unearned, but the unearned run was charged to Seddon after a 2-base error on a pick off attempt allowed a runner to advance to 3rd base. The second mistake was a home run to deep center field to Cody Ross. Seddon pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits.
The Indians took advantage of 2 errors committed by Boston on one play, which started Jason Donald on 3rd base on what should have been an easy out. Donald ...
BEST OF MAXIM
The book on Travis Hafner may be closed in Cleveland after the designated hitter was placed on the disabled list Thursday. The four-year, $57 million to which the Indians signed him was a complete bust. Hafner was often hurt during the term of the deal, and beyond that, the investment in the designated hitter greatly restricted the Indians in their efforts to piece together a contending...
IT NEVER ENDS
Boston third baseman Will Middlebrooks was hit in the wrist with a pitch and reportedly could be out a while. See the details of the injury and the timetable for his return here.
The Red Sox head into Cleveland with a chip on their shoulders after losing two straight to the Rangers, finishing off their 10-game home stand with a 55-57 record. Now they turn their attention to the road and hope for better results against the Indians. Pedro Ciriaco is back in the lineup, taking over at second base for hot-hitting Dustin Pedroia. Not to worry, though, Pedey'...
CLEVELAND -- No one was more impressed than Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta. He made that clear after Boston's Clay Buchholz dominated Cleveland's lineup with a two-hit complete game in the Red Sox's 3-2 victory Friday night. "That's the best game I've seen pitched against us all year and it wasn't even a shutout," Acta said. Buchholz...

For the last part of this series on who deserves the most blame for the Indians disappointing ’12 season and disappointing decade as a whole, I will look at the Cleveland Indians ownership group, Larry and Paul Dolan.
Larry and Paul Dolan – Owners
Blame Score 9/10
I’ve been a Dolan defender for years. People always want to talk about...
So much has gone wrong for the Red Sox this season that it's hard to pick out just one reason for the team's struggles. You could call out the club's inconsistent starting pitching, injuries, untimely hitting, so on and so forth. Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino isn't ready to place blame on any one area, though. "There is no single source, there'...
Felix Doubront is going to be shut down, but not entirely. Bobby Valentine told reporters in Cleveland on Friday that the 24-year-old starter will be skipped over in the rotation for his next scheduled start, in favor of Aaron Cook. Doubront, who had been in line to start again against Baltimore, is expected to be available out of the bullpen if the Sox need him. Doubront has pitched...
Clay Buchholz is an ace. Right now, the Boston starter is pitching at about as high of a level as a pitcher can be, and the Red Sox have needed exactly that. Friday night, the offense was able to scratch together enough runs for another Buchholz gem to hold up, and the Sox held on for the 3-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. It's an important win -- and the kind of game that the...
The Boston Red Sox have signed veteran outfielder Scott Podsednik just over a week after trading him to Arizona.
Podsednik batted .387 with one home run and seven RBI in 19 games for the Red Sox before being dealt to the Diamondbacks on July 31. He was released by Arizona after declining an assignment to Triple-A Reno.
Podsednik, who was batting ninth and playing left field Friday...
Scott Podsednik makes his return to the Red Sox lineup on Friday night against Cleveland, and while that might not sound like a lot, it could make all the difference for this one. After all, with the Sox in need of a win in any way possible, every little bit will help, regardless of where it comes from. The same, however, could be said for the Indians, who are playing with a little...
8 a.m. ET: The Red Sox and Indians are both living The Season That Could Have Been this year, but that doesn't mean they've spared each other over their four-game series this week. The two teams, which both came into this year thinking they could make noise in the American League, have slugged it out, with the Indians taking two games and the Red Sox one. While Boston (56...
Every Red Sox fans know how important 2011 first round pick Matt Barnes means to the organization but it’s another pitcher prospect in right hander Brandon Workman who is making big strides in 2012. Workman has pitched with High-A Salem Red Sox this season and is finally living up to expectations after being drafted in [...]
The Red Sox are looking for anything to give them a spark as they try to avoid falling out of contention -- and their latest search has led them to an old friend. After trading him to the Diamondbacks along with Matt Albers for Craig Breslow, the Red Sox re-signed Scott Podsednik on Thursday night. Podsednik, who had been released by Arizona after refusing to accept an assignment...
