Player of the Game Carlos Santana won a well deserved Player of the Game for his two out, two run single in the seventh inning. This hit brought the game within one run and, combined with a walk, gave him a final POG score of 2.52. His 17th Player of the Game of the year is the fourth most in a single season since I started keeping track in 2007. Asdrubal Cabrera had 20 last year, Grady Sizemore had 18 and Jhonny Peralta had the record 21 in 2008. Feathers Up Casey Kotchman had a pretty good defensive game, making one diving stop and alertly throwing to second after cutting off a throw from the outfield to get an overzealous runner. Kotchman's defense has been fantastic all season at firstbase and it will be the only thing about him that Indians fans miss when he is not on the team next year. Milestone Alert: Justin Masterson recorded his 500th strike out as an Indian tonight, then went on to strike out a couple more. Overall it was a bad game for Masterson, but it could ...

Another second-half swoon for Indians' Cabrera

Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera returned to the lineup Friday night and had two of the Indians' 10 hits in their 6-3 loss to Kansas City. Cabrera missed Thursday's game due to a sprained right wrist. Overall it has been another quiet second half of the season for Cabrera, which is becoming a pattern for him. Cabrera has made the American League All-Star team in each of the...

Kotchmania Runs Wild One More Time At Progressive Field

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that Casey Kotchman is an All-Star caliber player. I’m also not going to tell you that First Base is a position where offense doesn’t matter. But I will tell you that I have an appreciation for the guy that most others don’t. Yesterday afternoon’s series finally with the Minnesota Twins was won by a Kotchman bases loaded RBI single...

Mendoza helps Royals beat Indians

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Luis Mendoza pitched six effective innings and the Kansas City Royals beat the struggling Cleveland Indians 6-3 on Friday night. Mike Moustakas and Brayan Pena each drove in two runs for the Royals, who have won three straight and four of six. Mendoza wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the first and allowed two runs and eight hits. The Indians have lost...

Series Preview: Indians at Royals 9/21-23

Just like the series against the Twins, this upcoming series will be almost completely meaningless. While the Indians do have some player evaluations to do for next year, there is little to be learned in series against teams in the same situation as the Indians. Both the Twins and Royals are also evaluating young talent, making these games more like the AAA games that most of these...

Odorizzi will make his long awaited debut

by John Viril— Finally. After exhausting every possible excuse, GM Dayton Moore has finally called up RHP prospect Jake Odorizzi and manager Ned Yost has slotted him to start on Sunday against the Cleveland Indians. All Odorizzi had to do was go 15-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 145.1 IP in AA and AAA this season. Then, of course, he had to pitch in the AAA playoffs and the AAA championship...
