Scott Kazmir looked great today, going from the first hitter in the game through the first batter in the fifth inning without allowing a base runner. This was Kazmir's second to last start of the regular season and he let it all out, striking out ten and allowing just five base runners in 7+ innings.
Milestone Alert: Playing in his 810th career game today, Asdrubal Cabrera has now ranks 50th all time in games played by a member of the Cleveland Indians. Right now he is tied with Casey Blake, but will certainly move past him within the next two days. Only ten short stops have played more games than Cabrera and he is signed through 2014 as well.
Houston mixed things up this time around, throwing out their only right hander scheduled to pitch this series, Paul Clemens. The Indians liked the change of pace and scored more runs in the first inning than in either of the first two games. Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher lead the game off wit...

The Cleveland Indians going to the play-offs as a wild card team. How about that folks. The guy who is the most responsible for the Indians reaching fall play is an unsung hero that goes by the name of Mickey Callaway. He is the Indians pitching coach and he is the guy that turned a questionable starting rotation into one of the best starting staffs in all of baseball in the second...
If this one was any indication of the nail-biting nature of the stretch run just to get to October, it is going to be a long 10 days for Tribe fans. But here is hoping that the payoff will be as good as it was last night.
The Indians welcomed in the Houston Astros, baseball’s worst team. You know things are bad when former Tribe flame out #1 pick Trevor Crowe is not only their...
As the Cleveland Indians continue their thrilling run to a postseason berth, they received a measure of good news on the injury front regarding starter Justin Masterson.
Absent since leaving a start on September 2nd with a left oblique strain, the All-Star will soon be cleared to return to Cleveland in a relief role in order to rebuild his arm strength, and prospectively return...
A playoff contender in September, the Indians drew their largest crowd in almost a month and gave fans something to cheer about.
Scott Kazmir allowed four hits in seven shutout innings, Michael Brantley hit a two-run homer in a three-run first inning and the Indians maintained their hold on an AL wild-card spot with a 4-1 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday night.
Here is your highlight from Thursday’s game between the Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians. This older lady shows that she’s still got it with a fantastic catch. When this hard hit foul ball came her way she makes a nifty snag. She rightfully celebrates her terrific snag that would players like Eduardo Nunez and Richie Weeks wish they could make.

The Cleveland Indians' road to October is all but free of impediment, a parade of cupcake opponents that Terry Francona's boys are eagerly devouring as the season draws to a close.
Give the Indians credit - they're beating the teams in front of them. But make no mistake: The American League wild-card race isn't close to fair, not when the unbalanced schedule puts...
Some news, notes, and thoughts from my Indians notebook…
With just a week left in the season and still six teams in the wildcard mix, things are setting up to be quite crazy this week.
At the moment the Indians sit at 85-70 and own a half game lead on the Rangers for the second wildcard spot. The Rays lead the way with an 85-69 record, the Rangers are a half...
Ubaldo Jimenez’s success of late has been well documented and his transition from a guy who may not have the Indians pick up his mutual option to a top five free agent arm has happened in a heartbeat. One could quickly point to his elevated velocity, strikeout rate, location or reduced walk rate as core reasons for his improvement.
In each case one would be entirely correct. One...
With yet another four-game sweep, the Indians matched a feat last accomplished by the 1961 New York Yankees.
Now, they'd like to repeat something else those Bronx Bombers did in October.
Michael Brantley and Michael Bourn had two RBIs apiece as Cleveland, clinging tightly to one of the AL's two wild-card spots with a week left, became the first team in 52 years to post...
A Win’s A Win
Earned runs, unearned runs, walks, hits, errors, extra innings, rain… In the end, it doesn’t matter how you win since they’re all chalked up the same in the win column. On Friday night, the Indians took game two of the four-game set against the lowly Astros 2-1 in a rain-shortened six and a half innings of play.
Both runs of the game were unearned...

Carlos Santana had a come from behind Player of the Game win, surpassing Michael Brantley and his second consecutive two RBI day in his last at bat. Overall, Santana went 2-5 with a double and a home run, knocking in two and scoring twice as well for a POG score of 5.68. He just nudged out Brantley who scored 4.25.
This series has been very...
Welcome to a brand new season of the Weekly Power Poll. The power poll is a piece that will show up semi-regularly here at Indians Baseball Insider, and will focus either on an important weekly topic for the Cleveland Indians, or look at something with historical perspective. Last season, we took a look at several issues, including the top players in the long history of the...

Zach McAllister was the top player tonight, despite being pulled during the sixth inning. He allowed just a single run and four hits. McAllister pitched well enough to earn the win as well since the Indians managed to get two runs behind him in the rain shortened game.
The Astros managed to play things tight with the Indians again tonight...
The 2013 Instructional League game schedule got underway on Saturday out in Arizona for the Indians minor leaguers. A total of 25 players played and Tony has the full details on how each player did, the box score from the game, and provides some insight and analysis into their performances and what they are working on out in Arizona.
We've officially reached the stretch run.
With just six games left to play in the 2013 MLB season, the Cleveland Indians' record sits at 86-70, and the team is in possession of one of the two Wild Card spots.
Texas is close behind as the Rangers trail the Indians by just 1 ½ games.
The Tribe will face the Chicago White Sox twice this week before they head to Minnesota to...
