Found September 28, 2013 on Burning River Baseball:
Player of the Game Scott Kazmir was strike out happy again today, whiffing 11 Twins in six innings. Overall, he was effective, allowing just six hits, all of which were singles. He allowed just one run during the game, allowing the Indians to cruise to victory. Prior to September, Kazmir had struck out ten batters in a game just once, but has done so three times this month, including a season high 12 on the sixth. Feathers Up Scoreboard Watch: Tampa Bay was destroyed by the Blue Jays today, completely flipping around the Wild Card standings. The two game losing streak is what the Indians have been waiting for during the past week and was enough to allow the Indians to move into sole possession of the first Wild Card spot. Now, if the Indians win tomorrow, the Wild Card game will take place in Cleveland, something that seemed improbable two weeks ago. Cole De Vries looked unhittable in the first four innings, striking out seven of his first eleven batters faced until ...

Indians P got stuck on elevator

Cleveland Indians pitcher Scott Kazmir had his worst hotel nightmare come true Thursday night while staying at the Minnesota W Hotel. Life was going well for Kazmir until he stepped onto an elevator and proceeded to head up to his room for a little rest and relaxation. It was all downhill from there. From Fox Sports Ohio: Kazmir was on the elevator at the W Hotel going to his...

MLB news: Francona removes Chris Perez as Cleveland’s closer

It appears that Terry Francona has seen enough of Chris Perez in tight situations. Terry Francona just told Mike Trivisonno on WTAM 1100 that Chris Perez is no longer the closer for the #Indians. — Nick Camino (@NickCaminoWTAM) September 27, 2013 On the Indians’ pregame show on Fox Sports, Francona said he would use a committee type of approach to the closer role, using individual...

162+: Indians win 9th straight, one win away from Wild Card

The Cleveland Indians are guaranteed to play more than 162 games in the 2013 season. On the heels of a brilliant outing from Scott Kazmir and some of their classic two-out magic, the Indians clinched at least one game beyond today as even with a loss today they would at worst be playing baseball on Monday. After their ninth straight win, however, it’s time to make it a perfect...

Tribe Happenings: The Indians are the ultimate "team"

Some news, notes and thoughts from my Indians notebook… The Ultimate Team In our Tuesday morning Second Thoughts piece the IBI’s Kevin Dean asked who the Indians’ MVP is this season. As expected, the responses were all over the place. This is of no surprise because this team truly does not have an MVP. There has been no guy that carried the team on their back all season. That...

Closing Time for the Indians

An article by Seth Pae, a hopelessly optimistic die hard Cleveland sports fan. As I lie here in my Chicago apartment, draped in a Cleveland Indians blanket, (which nicely matches my Indians pillow and sheets) I am filled with nervous energy. This is a different kind of nervous, though. It's isn't the usual Cleveland attitude of "we have a chance to FINALLY win...but...

The Cleveland Indians get ready for a TribeTown October!!!

The Cleveland Indians are returning to the playoffs after an incredible two-week run that saw the team rack up a ten-game winning streak, while passing both the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays for the top wildcard spot. The Tribe will play in front of a sold-out crowd on Wednesday. Who will they play? The Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays will figure that out tomorrow...

A one and done playoff, the Indians have been here before

In 2012, MLB implemented a one game playoff between the first and second wild card teams to see who would compete in the playoffs.  Right now as we prepare for this year's wild card one-and-done games, it's interesting to note that the Indians are not foreigners to this experience (while most of us may not remember). There was a near miss in 1908 when the Indians finished...

Second Thoughts Game #160: Indians 12, Twins 6

90 Wins 20 games over .500, 22 games better than their 2012 record, two games better than the 2012 division champion Tigers and most importantly, good enough for possession of a postseason berth. While a team’s number of wins doesn’t necessarily dictate how they’ll fare in the playoffs, it still is a symbol of success, particularly to a ball club that doesn’t see...

Cleveland Indians: Play-Off Bound!

The Indians earned their way into the play-offs for the first time since 2007 by winning their final ten games of the season and 15 of their final 17. They needed every single one of those wins to take the top Wild Card spot and they did, just barely beating out the Rays and Rangers. The one game Wild Card play-off will take place on Wednesday, October 2nd in Cleveland and the Indians...

Jimenez strikes out 13 as Indians claim wild-card spot with 5-1 win over Twins

Forget the tiebreaker scenarios and hopscotching across the country just in order to play one win-or-go-home wild-card game. The Indians by beating the Twins on Sunday 5-1 behind 13 strikeouts by Ubaldo Jimenez and Nick Swisher's early-strike home run have earned two days off before playing that wild card game Wednesday night at Progressive Field at 8:07 p.m. The Indians who...

Ubaldo to start Sunday, regardless of circumstances

Earlier in the week, speculation from Fox Sports’s Ken Rosenthal was that Ubaldo Jimenez would not start on Sunday in the regular season finale should the Indians clinch a playoff berth today. The idea being that the Indians would take their chances in a worst-case scenario with Ubaldo on the road and use a bullpen committee approach on Sunday. That does not appear to be the case...
