The Hater Nation:
ESPN the Magazine ranked the top sports organization in sports and it should come as no surprise that the Angels are the top of the list. What, were you expecting the Raiders? Some teams preach commitment to excellence, others live it. The Angels are that organization. The Angels excel where organizations such as the Raiders and Dodgers lag far behind. Here are some of the reasons given by ESPN the Magazine. A damn fine magazine that, although I have never read it, must be pretty good. The fans love going to the stadium. The Angels have had a couple of incidents this year with a fan getting punched down the stairs and an off-duty cop (a Los Angeles cop, mind you) firing at some fans. But even with those incidents, an Angels game doesn't seem unsafe. There's never a take-your-life-in-your-hands feeling that you get from going to Dodger Stadium. And that's just on the drive up. Raiders violence is legendary and doesn't need embellishment. The only time there are really une...

Five Million Well Spent
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim spent $5 million to bring Bobby Abreu to their team. That’s what he was worth based on his 2008 season, but according to FanGraphs, he’s produced $7.8 million in value half-way through the season. He hit two home runs Thursday night in the Angels 5-2 win over [...]
Report: Angels wanted Haren, but D-Backs declined
The Angels have leapfrogged the Rangers for first place in the AL West, although that doesn’t mean that they’re ready to stand pat with their current roster.
According to a report by FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Halos inquired about Diamondbacks’ starter Dan Haren, who could have joined Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders, John Lackey and Ervin [...]
Two Thoroughly Depressing Games
Back In The AL: Rangers 9, Angels 5
It's hard to have anything comforting or even remotely interesting to say about this game, one that ended the Angels' six-game winning streak; the Angels failed at offense, relatively, and most notably, they failed at pitching, starter Joe Saunders in particular. He now owns a career 11.68 ERA in Texas, and isn't that all you needed...

Abreu homers twice, Angels beat Orioles 5-2
Bobby Abreu hit two home runs, John Lackey pitched eight solid innings and the Los Angeles Angels beat the lowly Baltimore Orioles 5-2 on Thursday night.
Stupid Baserunning + Lousy Pitching = Another Texas Loss: Rangers 9, Angels 7
Partly as a consequence of not one but two power outages at the office, I wasn't able to pay close attention to this game, and I'm glad I didn't; Weaver was uncharacteristically bad, although you could argue that a flyball pitcher in Texas is like an armadillo on an Arlington highway: roadkill waiting to happen. The Angels' inspiring-but-not-quite-enough comeback in the ninth was...
The Register's Sam Miller Interviews Sean Smith
Great piece:
me: Before I go to some players outperforming or underperforming projections, though, this is quoting you… you were asked which Angel could collapse, which would break out: “If I have to pick one maybe Howie Kendrick. I’m worried about the injuries and inability to lay off the slider outside stalling his development. With his lack of patience, he has to hit .300...
Baltimore Orioles (35-44) at LA Angels of Anaheim (43-34), 10:05 p.m.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been able to rebound from a rough beginning to the season. The team is hoping one of its most talented pitchers will be able to do the same in tonight's matchup with the Baltimore Orioles at Angel Stadium.
