What are the odds the Rangers' offense can come back from a 7-2 deficit, assuming Jason Jennings and whoever follows can hold Arizona in check? Not good, even though the Rangers have six hits after five turns at bat. Speaking of not good, Matt Harrison was not good. He allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings as he consistently fell behind hitters. The left-hander also walked four. The Rangers appear to be headed to a fifth straight loss, which would match their longest skid of the season. The first came in early April. -- Jeff Wilson

Is Sosa “Enhancing” His Arms? And Other Sammy News

In the wake of the Sammy Sosa steroid scandal, many people around the majors have been chiming in about what they think regarding this topic.  Ryne Sandberg does not approve, and he had this to say: Appearing on the “Waddle & Silvy” show on ESPN 1000, Sandberg was asked whether Sosa belongs in the Hall of [...]

Sosa and McGwire Get Laughed at Last

So here, potentially, is the ultimate — and fitting — commentary on the 1998 home run extravaganza that supposedly saved Major League Baseball from its self-inflicted collective bargaining wounds of four years earlier. The reporter who doused the Mark McGwire-Sammy Sosa celebration of strength with a long article that raised a short question — is it real? — has a chance to...

ESPN.com: Elvis Andrus among 9 rookies to watch

Jerry Crasnick came out with his nine rookies to watch this week and Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus came in at No. 4. Here's that part of the story: The Rangers ranked 30th in the game last year in Baseball Prospectus' team defensive efficiency ratings, which measure the rate at which balls in play are converted into outs. This year Texas is fourth. That has a lot to do...

Cowlishaw game: Cactus Edition

No one had Matt Harrison only lasting 3 2/3 innings. His line: 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 85 pitches. Joltin' Joe Lovitto was the closest. He had Harrison going 4.2 innings and allowing 5 runs on 10 hits. Still, no one gets the grand prize. McCool, Stan, Dominic in Alpine, KdaddyO, Patrick A, Rett Davis, Travis in Waco, Drew MrHand and Jimbo had the Rangers bullpen giving up...

Rangers talk: Late-inning relief (Wilson, Francisco)

Manager Ron Washington has said that he wants to ease Frank Francisco back into the bullpen mix since he's coming off a DL stint. So for the second time, Francisco was pitching in a late-inning situation, but not as the closer. Francisco pitched a scoreless eighth (leaving one runner stranded after a leadoff double in a bit of a stressful inning) and C.J. Wilson got a 1-2-3 ninth...

Haren goes for third straight vs. Texas

Dan Haren, who has won his last two starts, goes for his third straight victory tonight vs. the Texas Rangers at Chase Field. Haren has been masterful all season for Arizona, and leads the National League with a sterling 2.23 ERA. Yet his record doesn’t reflect his dominance. Haren is only 6-4 on the [...]

Sandberg: Sosa doesn't deserve Hall of Fame

Former Chicago Cubs star Ryne Sandberg says Sammy Sosa doesn't belong in the Baseball Hall of Fame. "I don't think so," Sandberg told ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago on Tuesday. "Part of being in the Hall of Fame, they use the word integrity in describing a Hall of Famer, in the logo of the Hall of Fame, and I think there are going to be quite a few players that...
