Josh Beckett continued to dominate the Atlanta Braves and David Ortiz launched his eighth homer of the season beating the Braves, 4-1. Beckett pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing six hits, no walks and struck out six batters. Ortiz finished the night going 1-for-3 with a solo homer in the fifth inning to open the scoring for Boston. Beckett has made two starts against Atlanta in a week span and did not allow a run. J.D. Drew, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis all picked up RBI's in the win. Star of the Game - Beckett It's pretty obvious why he is the Star of the Game. Had it not for him being sick Beckett may have pitched a complete game. Next Game - 6/27 vs. Atlanta Braves - Tim Wakefield/Javier Vazquez Wakefield continues to pitch for his first All-Star game selection. If Wakefield gets 10 wins I think he is selected as an All-Star this season.

Beckett Continues His Ownership of the Braves

Josh Beckett continued his dominance of the Atlanta Braves last night, pitching seven shutout innings in leading the Red Sox to a 4-1 win in Atlanta last night. For 2009, he has pitched 16 innings against the Braves and allowed no earned runs.I didn't see any of the game last night, which is an extreme rarity for me. I was with a dear friend for dinner and a movie last night. But...

Josh Beckett Doesn't Give a Damn What His Stomach Says, He Came to Party

First of all, to respond to the previous post, I can assume, Denton, that you only watched the first inning? Because the Smoltz I saw from innings two through five had a remarkably low suck factor.Of course, he's no Commander Kick Ass. In fact, earlier this season, Commander Kick Ass himself was no Commander Kick Ass. But Beckett is clearly back in the groove. And even as his...

June Punctutation Mark

Josh Beckett ends his June with seven shutout innings against the Braves as the Red Sox take the game 4-1. Beckett posts a 1.51 ERA for the month. With no walks and six strikeouts Friday night, his June totals go to four walks and 35 K in 35 2/3 innings. Beckett is now 9-3 [...]

It’s a bravo performance

As a rule - and a prudent one, at that - manager Terry Francona avoids Josh Beckett when he pitches. That goes for before and during games. Why face that intensity, that competitiveness more than absolutely necessary? That was why Francona was set to send Beckett out for the eighth in a consecutive scoreless stretch that had reached ...

WAS 9, BOS 3: Debut

It's not quite the debut John Smoltz may have wanted but it's a starting point. Smoltz pitched five innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, one walk and five strikeouts. David Ortiz drove home his 34th RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field and Rocco Baldelli hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Boston had eight hits in the loss. Jordan...

Ortiz, Sox Power Over Nationals

David Ortiz hit a three-run homer last night to spark the Red Sox offense in a 6-4 win over the Washington Nationals. Adam Kilgore has Ortiz seemingly having turned it all around for himself. John Tomase says that Ortiz’s home run last night was just a like the old days  – a no-doubt-about-it moon shot. Joe McDonald has Ortiz [...]Post from: Boston Sports Media Watch

One mistake spells trouble for Stammen

At the end of what was perhaps his final night on a big league mound for a while, Craig Stammen could only sigh at the one costly pitch he threw to the Boston Red Sox. The other 85 offerings the Washington Nationals rookie hurled up there at one of the sport's most potent lineups were mostly effective. But that one - a full-count change-up to David Ortiz in the top of the fourth...
