This morning in ATH, I asked why Philly fans hate Rod Barajas. It was explained to me in the comments that it was because Barajas wussed out when he should have been blocking the plate against the Marlins a couple of years ago, allowing a run to score. The great Bob Timmermann -- a librarian, and you don't friggin' mess with librarians -- sends along a news account from that game, revealing that it was actually worse than even the Philly fans in the comments described. From the Knight Ridder report, May 24, 2007: Aaron Boone singled to shallow leftfield. Jayson Werth fielded it cleanly and fired home, where Ramirez was out by at least 20 feet. Except Barajas chose to rise instead of block the plate. Ramirez slid under the tag. Home plate umpire Tim Timmons called Ramirez safe; tie game. Barajas went ballistic. He got ejected. Manuel soon followed. Replays convinced Manuel of Timmons' correctness, though. "Ninety-nine times out of a hundred they're going t...

Rod Barajas invokes the infield fly rule in three straight at-bats

Last night at The Bank, former Phillies disappointment Rod Barajas may have done something that no other major league baseball player has ever done in the history of baseball.  I’m not talking about how he trotted down to first base after ball 3 during his second at-bat — I’m sure some loser has done that [...]

Homecoming arrives for Blue Jays' Cecil

It turns out Brett Cecil's homecoming was postponed, not canceled, and merely moved to a different spot in his backyard. The 22-year-old rookie left-hander, who graduated from DeMatha High School and starred at the University of Maryland, was supposed to start for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Memorial Day. More than 100 friends and relatives...

Rod Barajas? Really?

Unlike the Eagles who never seem to get f’d by the players they dump, the Phillies sure are getting it up the rear lately. Former Philadelphia pariahs, Rod “Block that plate” Barajas and Scott “P*ssy” Rolen came into town this week and wreaked havoc on the Phillies now tenuous hold on first place in the NL [...]

Blue Jays losing Halladay, closer

The Blue Jays plan to put ace Roy Halladay and closer Scott Downs on the disabled list today. Right-hander Casey Janssen (shoulder) was placed on the DL before Wednesday night's game against the Phillies.

A New Way to Win

Remember when the Nationals couldn’t win a high scoring game? Now they can’t lose a low scoring game. They defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 in twelve innings Saturday night. The Nats win was their fourth in a row, by a combined scored of 13-6. Now, if Acta can just get [...]
