TEAMS: Los Angeles Angels
(Getty Images)By David Saltzer - AngelsWin.com ColumnistIt was with much sadness that I got out the ladder and took down my Angels flag this week. With that act another Angels baseball season ended. No longer would I hear the sweet sound of a bat hitting a ball or the chatter of a game. The darkest part of the year had begun. But, unlike Matthew Pouliot who blogged after Sunday’s game that the Angels should be embarrassed about their loss to the Yankees, I’m not. I watched this team from the first game of Spring Training until the last out against the Yankees and I’m proud of everything that this team accomplished in 2009.If ever there was a season where the Angels had every reason not to contend, 2009 was it. Before the season got underway, the team suffered some serious blows. Both Ervin Santana and John Lackey started the season on the disabled list. Kelvim Escobar, whom many had hoped would recover from shoulder surgery, took a turn for the worse and never threw a pitch fo...

35-year old outfielder Gary Matthews wants out of L.A. as he wants to go somewhere he can start. He played in 103 games for the Angels last season and he was 79 for 316 (.250 avg, .697 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 4 homers, 50 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Matthews really hurt [...]
The Los Angeles Angels have a good trading partner in the Florida Marlins
The Angels and Marlins could likely talk about a big trade over the winter. The Angels have a need at 3B, RF and LHR and the Marlins could offer them all of those in Jorge Cantu, Jeremy Hermida and Reynel Pinto. In return the Angels would have to give up some players they [...]

Angels Yet To Call On Aroldis Chapman
The Angels have been linked to free agent lefty Aroldis Chapman via scouting director Eddie Bane. Given Chapman's friendship with Kendry Morales and interest in Southern California, the Halos could be a decent fit. However, our source says the team has yet to call to express interest.
Chapman is also friendly with Alexei Ramirez of the White Sox. We reported Chicago...
Cubs Potential Offseason Targets: Kelvim Escobar
Trying to figure out which relievers the Cubs may try to acquire - if any - to bolster a poor bullpen performance is like trying to find a decent Cubs position player developed by the Cubs farm system over the last 35 years. For all I know the Cubs won't do much but try and resign John Grabow and then see who might stick from the current crop of youngsters plus a few Chad Fox...
Heyman On Lee, Lackey, Mets, Nats
Cliff Lee out-pitched C.C. Sabathia last night, there's no question about that. Now, as Jon Heyman of SI.com points out, Lee's value is at an all-time high. The Phillies figure to try to lock Lee up this offseason, but he may cost $100MM or more. After two straight World Series appearances, however, Heyman says the Phillies have the "loot" to reach an agreement...
