Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was held out of the lineup Sunday with a strained oblique and lower back pain.
Since his batting average reached a season-high .335 on June 9, Jones is hitting .232 (59 for 254) over his last 70 games. He has only eight hits in his last 66 at-bats since Atlanta's 4-1 loss to Philadelphia on Aug. 16.
Atlanta manager Bobby Cox hopes Jones can return to the lineup Tuesday when the Braves begin a three-game series at Houston.

The week got off to a great start, with the Braves winning the first two games in Florida.
The rest of the week showed that only a miracle would get the Braves into the playoffs in 2009.
To be realistic, the Braves would have to go 20-5 over the last four weeks of the season and have the Rockies go 13-12 or worse to even get a one-game playoff.

As the Braves playoff hopes faded away this weekend, not all news was upsetting. On Saturday, Atlanta promoted its top prospect Jason Heyward from AA Mississippi to AAA Gwinnett.

I understand the season is not over yet and the Braves still have a small chance, to get in the playoffs in 2009. However, there is no way to improve the current team, so I think it is fair to write an early review for the 2009 Braves and their weaknesses and possible improvement from free agency and trade in 2010.
I did not believe they had a chance to get in the playoffs...
