Willie Harris(notes) has been an offensive sinkhole in limited second-half action but I'm willing to let that pass as we consider the final five weeks of the year. He's essentially going to be a regular now that Nyjer Morgan(notes) (broken hand) is out for the year, and I have fond memories of the run Harris went on at the end of 2008 (.270, eight homers, seven steals over his last 61 games). Those aren't pinball numbers, perhaps, but there's a use for them in deeper mixed groups, especially when you consider that Harris qualifies all over the diamond (second, third, outfield). Throw me a bone here – I'm just asking you to consider him as a possible Swiss Army Knife off the bench. You might wonder why we keep pushing Nationals on you in this space, but hey, we'll take numbers anywhere we can get them. Washington's offense is a lot better than it's given credit for. The plucky Nats are fourth in the NL in average, second on OBP, fifth in slugging, and sixth in runs scored (the most im...

Nats close out a series victory
CHICAGO | Mike MacDougal has, as Washington Nationals teammate Josh Bard puts it, "a one-in-a-billion arm." Plenty of big league relievers have the ability to throw the ball 98 mph, but name another one who also can make a pitch at that extreme velocity sink several inches. It's a gift perhaps only MacDougal possesses, but for much of his career it's a gift he has been unable to...
