CHICAGO | Third baseman Alex Gordon is heading to the minors to rebuild his swing, his season and perhaps his career. The Royals optioned Gordon to Class AAA Omaha prior to Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The Royals sent Alex Gordon to the minors, according to Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star. If the demotion lasts for more than 20 days, the Royals will have delayed his free agency by a season. Gordon, who was expected to become a free agent after 2012, may not become a free agent until after the 2013 season.

It's obvious (despite what spouts from the FO) the team is using the demotion to delay his free agency a year, and I can see it, why burn a year of his service time on a season like this? He isn't hitting, the team is going nowhere. Of course, it makes no sense to still have Roman Colon in the bullpen...
