TEAMS: Chicago Cubs

A lot of talk out there about a certain Presidential hopeful's experience and whether he has the credentials for the job. A few days ago, Stuart Scott of ESPN asked a Barack Obama who he would root for in a Cubs-White Sox World Series. His response?"Oh, that's easy. White Sox. I'm not one of these fair weather fans. You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there. People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball. Southside."This has caused quite a stir in Chicago with Cubs fan. I've read quotes in the Trib by these fans that Obama made a mistake in insulting Cubdom and now they wouldn't vote for him and would cast their vote for the other guy. I was shocked by this. Who knew that Cubs fans knew how to vote. At least they don't have to worry about asking off work early to go vote.http://fivetooltool.blogspot.com - The Sports Blog That Loves You Back!

In this week's ATAtM, the Cubs system has a busload full of succesful relievers, Jovan Rosa may have set a record for most extra base hits out of a power spot with only one RBI, and much, much more!IowaFelix Pie-Pie has been getting a lot of AB's and a lot of hits of late. This week, he went 9 for 27 in 6 games (averaging a hit and a half per game, while averaging 4 and a half AB...

Ramirez versus DeRosa for Player of the Month

With three days left in August, the Cubs have two legit contenders for player of the month honors in August. The only player of the month winner so far for the best team in baseball has been Geovany Soto's rookie of the month honor in April, although he's certainly a strong contender to win it again in August. His only real competition is the July winner, Ian Stewart who has a slight...

Obama Takes a Jab at Cubs Fans

Presidential candidate Barack Obama recently sat down with ESPN's Stuart Scott for an interview that will air next week, I'm led to believe. There was one particular clip from the interview that can be construed as controversial. Eamonn Brennan at the brand new blog over at MOUTHPIECE SPORTS (we're on strict order to [...]

The Theriot Files

Click play to enjoy today's theme music from the 80s television show Knots Landing.  In last night's game, runner on 2nd, nobody out, a routine groundball was hit to Ryan Theriot.  Chase Utley did his best by trying to give the Cubs an out by trying to move up to 3rd.  What did Theriot do?  He threw to 1st.  You'd think someone who gets thrown out at 3rd for the very same...

Extra Kosuke: Unsigned Fukudome Sneaks into Chrome

It's part of a popular insert set, but that Bowman Chrome autographed rookie card of a certain Cubs' rookie isn't actually autographed and according to Topps, it wasn't supposed to be there anyway.

2008 Cubs home runs as measured by Hit Tracker

I think I may have done this at some point last season and it's mostly just for fun, but it is informative as well. You can take a look at the Cubs page on Hit Tracker here. Hit Tracker gives you the leaders in home runs in several different categories at the moment. I'm going to list the leaders for the Cubs and MLB in True Distance, Standard Distance, Speed off Bat, Golden Sledgehammers...

ABH - Anybody But Hamels

I think I'm taking the 2008 Cubs for granted. I headed to my car for my commute home last night just as the Phillies were scoring three runs in the sixth. And even with Cole Hamels carving up the lineup, I never thought we were out of it. I tuned into XM radio by that point and it had Pat and Ron going and Pat was carrying on that the Phils bullpen has been worked hard lately...

Cole-lossal bullpen meltdown for Phillies

Stop me if you've heard this one before: the Phillies wasted a Cole Hamels start. Hamels cruised against the Cubs for 7 innings, striking out 6 batters and giving up only 1 run. With the Phillies up 4-1, Hamels was relieved in the 8th inning by Ryan Madson, and the floodgates opened for the Cubs. Madsen failed to get an out, giving up a homer and a pair of hits before he gave way...
