When Chien Ming Wang first came off the DL the Yankees had a tough decision to make. It was obvious that Phil Hughes would be getting bumped for the Yankees' former ace. However, they had to decide whether to put him in the bullpen or send him down to Scranton. The Yanks went with the former option and its pretty tough to argue with the results that he's produced for them. However, some still maintain that he needs to work on developing his changeup in Scranton. The idea being that he cannot be an effective ML starter without being able to throw a changeup.I've been skeptical of this idea since I first heard it so I decided to look at the numbers of pitchers who've thrown their changeup up 5% of the time or less in recent years. Why 5%? Because A) Phil has thrown the changeup 4.4% of the time for his career and B) Its an easy cutoff point. Fangraphs.com conveniently has the option of sorting these stats three years at a time so we'll use intervals of three years ...

Does Hughes Belong in the Bullpen?

I know I've lost plenty of people right off the bat with the title but its something you have to consider with him being as good as he's been in the bullpen. Especially since he has not been good at all as a starter. It looks like we're heading into a repeat of the Joba Chamberlain debate. Does the young promising starter belong in the bullpen or the rotation? With Joba...

The comeback kids did it again. Tonight's come from behind win was a nice way to start the 2nd half of the season. Mark Texeira Makes The Tigers His Bitch

The New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 5-3. A.J. Burnett started but got a no decision. Phil Hughes kicked their ass and got the win. That’s right bitches. A Few Things About Last Night

Even though I was unable to post a game summary last night there are a few things I wanted to talk about regarding yesterday's 5-3 win.A.J. Burnett had nothing but still somehow battled his way to a quality start (hate that stat) and kept the Yankees in the game. A pitcher with less overall stuff doesn't even come close to throwing that kind of game with that lack of command...

Rain, Comebacks, Maddux, Lugo

- Yankees fans experienced déjà vu to start the second half. A rain delay and a comeback. - Is Phil Hughes doing a great impersonation of Mariano Rivera circa 96 or what? Maybe Joba can watch him and see what happens when a young pitcher actually pitches instead of just throws. - Great job by Joe Demayo [...]

It’s 2009 and the Yankees have questions with their starting rotation once again.  Chien Ming Wang is back on the D.L. and with an ERA still close to 10, that is not necessarily a bad thing. With the trade deadline approaching, Brain Cashman has some work to do if he wants to keep his job with the New York Yankees. Recent free agent signing disasters such as Kevin Brown...
