PLAYERS: Dustin Pedroia
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox

Count me in among the list of people that didn't think Dustin Pedroia's numbers were good enough to get him the MVP award. People like me are who have kept Pedroia going throughout his entire career. He wants to prove us wrong and he has yet again done so, but this time by being named the Most Valuable Player in the American League. Pedroia has become the second player in history to win the MVP award the year after picking up a 'Rookie of The Year' trophy. He did it by getting first place votes on 16 of the 28 ballots that were cast. His offensive numbers for 2008: .326 AVG, 17 HR, 83 RBI. He did all this while also winning a Gold Glove for his defensive play at second base. Congrats Petey. Keep proving me wrong.

  • Had a hell of a year, very deserving.

On a side note anybody think we should stop the whole media vote for this? Two bozo's one in the American League and one in the National League left Pedroia and Ryan Howard off of there ballots, completely off. So somehow these two writers thought that the even though Pedroia won and Howard came in 2nd in the NL voting that there were 10 better players in each respective league. Sounds a little fishy too me.
  • Yeah I heard about that on the radio earlier. If the media will continue voting for huge awards like this, we should at least have some kind of process to determine who votes. It seems like there are tons of idiots voting nowadays.
  • he deserves every bit of that honor. he gives you every ounce of effort at every at-bat. he may not give you big power #'s, but he's just as important. i think he has the right attitude towards the game too.
  • It's awesome that he can hit anywhere in the lineup too. Remember those few weeks where he hit clean-up?

    Pedroia<3
  • he does deserve this. Petey has a lot oh heart and he brings up the ball club. He hits balls out of the park that seem impossable and his defence is amazing!!!!!!! so this year he won mvp, gold glove, and silver slugger, is there anything im missing???!!!!!!
  • He also has a World Series ring from last year ;X Pretty awesome career for 2 years eh?
  • Plus I read a couple guys in the NL gave votes too Edison Volquez for rookie of the year and, he's not a rookie. Shameful.
  • Yep, people are idiots. To be honest, there should be a bigger WTF? about that than there is about Pedroia being left off the guys ballot. He can vote for whoever he wants and try to justify it however he wants, but when the people that are voting don't know the qualifications for being a rookie? My god..
  • hahahahahaha thats funny and sad at the same time
  • Yeah I agree, it's ridiculous. I guess we shouldn't be surprised, most people covering baseball aren't anymore knowledgeable about baseball then you or I. Sometimes I truly think, in some cities, that the fans know more then the writers, owners, managers, and gms.
  • i 100% agree with u
