The Mets were reported to be interested in Fernando Cabrera this winter ( source MLBTR) but allowed him to slip by to the Red Sox on a minor league contract. The 27 y/o right hander is a hard throwing reliever who has the potential to be a set-up man, while dominating the minor leagues he has struggled in the majors. In six seasons in AAA with the Indians, Orioles and Red Sox's affiliates he has an ERA 2.31 in 130 appearances and 233 SO in 198 innings. He's been coming to the majors since 2004, all partial seasons except 2006 ( 51 appearances/ 5.19 ERA), overall he has an ERA of 5.00 in 129 appearances and while his ERA isn't great he has great strike out ratios 192 SO in 172 innings. The Red Sox Designated him for assignment (source MLBTR), the Mets don't have many hard throwing pitcher's with strike out potential and a funky delivery, the Mets should put a claim in on Cabrera if he makes it too them...

Heidi Watney Will Do Anything For A Buck

We all know that NESN’s Boston Red Sox sideline reporter Heidi Watney is eye candy to some but she’s shown at times that she’s not the brightest bulb on the tree. And now to top it off, she “plays” a dumb pretty blonde in an Olympia Sports commercial (Please open the article to see the flash [...]

A Weekend of a lot of baseball...and a lot of rain!

So, it's goes without saying that I am having a hard time focusing on anything right now. Work? Not likely. My mind is focused on one thing and one thing only....that I am Shipping Up To Boston tomorrow and have tickets to the Red Sox/Yankees. Do I have tickets to one game? Yep. Two games? Yep. All THREE games? I sure do. Excited is the understatement of the century. I...

Red Sox sweep Jays as HR onslaught continues

J.D. Drew homered twice, Jon Lester pitched eight strong innings and the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-1 on Thursday to complete a three-game sweep.

Kevin Youkilis homered twice and tied a career high with six RBIs, rookie Junichi Tazawa stopped New York's big bats and the Boston Red Sox broke a five-game skid against the Yankees with a 14-1 win Saturday.

The Cano vs. Pedroia Debate Rages

Well, not really, but thanks to Joel Sherman's article this morning it's been the topic of discussion on several Yankees blogs, so I figured I'd chime him.The article is titled Pedroia's Effort Level Leaves Robbie In Dust. I formed a seven- man committee comprised of one NL GM, one AL GM, and five assistants -- three NL and two AL -- and posed this question: If...

Series Preview: Yankees @ Red Sox

Yankees - Red Sox@ Fenway(three games)I asked you guys what you felt the Yankees needed to do in this series and I agree with most of you. The only thing the Yankees need to do is not get swept. Leaving Boston with a 5.5 game lead and 38 games to play isn't too bad of a position to be in.That said, if the Yankees can go into Fenway and take two of three or sweep the Yanks could bury...

What, Me Worry? Sox Sweep to 8-1 Victory Over Jays

At the outset, it looked to be another example of the maddening inconsistency plaguing Boston baseball. The Red Sox went quietly in the top of the first, and the Jays drew first blood, against no less a personage than lefty assassin Jon Lester. “Oh god,” I thought after three innings, “we may have tied the [...]

Red Sox Return Favor 14-1 Over Yankees

After having their butts handed to them on Friday night by the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox returned the favor Saturday afternoon as they pounded A.J. Burnett early and often on their way to a 14-1 win in front of 37,277 at Fenway Park. The win for the Red Sox (70-52) pulls them to [...]

Yankees: Beware

This is not the same Sox team you swept earlier this month in your house. You're playing in Fenway against a team that has resumed it's winning ways prior to the All Star Game. The Sox just swept the Toronto Blue Jays, always a good team, just in the wrong division. The Sox beat Toronto tonight by a score of 8-1 behind the pitching of Jon Lester and 2 HR's from J.D. Drew...
