Is anyone else blown away by the fact it's May 1st? And yet here we are, standing on the brink of summer with the Pirates holding an 11-10 record. The record is the only thing that matters in the end, but the Pirates finished April at .500 in 2007, and we all know how that turned out. Will 2009 be different?

On some levels, it's hard to be upset about the sort of game that the Pirates and Brewers played this afternoon. Yovani Gallardo put forth a pretty impressive effort, striking out 11 in eight innings and hitting a home run when his offense wasn't doing anything for him, and some days you just can't win when you're up against a pitcher like that.
