Take a look at the Yankees' record in 1-run games: 4-13. The team struggles mightily in close games even as Rivera is becoming more of a bleacher creature than a relied upon reliever. While Torre is waiting for the save opportunity to bring him into games, the bullpen is blowing the attempts for Rivera. The Proctor-Bruney-Farnsworth-Vizcaino-Myers combo has 10 blown saves between them. If the inevitable hall-of-famer was used more often in close games this could turn around.

  • I didn't get this, either. How could Torre use Proctor in the 9th last night when he has a rested, under-used Rivera available in a game the Yankees need to win? I love Proctor and think he could be tremendous if he didn't have to pitch every day. Rivera has to be in that game, though. As much as I love Torre, it has become obvious over the years that bullpen handling is his Achilles heel.

Alex Rodriguez will be the first $40 million dollar player

The economic foundation of the MLB teams supports a record breaking number for Mr. Rodriguez. In 1999, one team had a payroll above $100 million dollars a year, in 2007 a full 8 teams have $100 million dollar payrolls (Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Cubs, Mariners, Mets, White Sox, and the Dodgers), and another 7 teams have $90 million plus payrolls (Astros, Blue Jays, Braves, Cardinals...

Yankees Sell??? It Might Be For the Best...

HSNY's J Platt opines: "Look, I know the Yankee fans have a never say die attitude, and I'm sure it's "possible" for a huge second half and a playoff run, but why would it be better next season? Mussina, Pettitte, Damon, & Giambi will all be another year older and with age follows nagging injuries. I'm sure it would upset the fan base to deal away...

Roger Clemens Drops Another One

As excpected, at least by me that Roger Clemens would not come to the Yankees as good as he was for the Astros last season. Clemens is now 1-3 with 5.32 ERA. He also is having injury problems. in the 6th inning of tonights Baltimore game Clemens appeared to have tweaked a groin but who knows what it really is. He is not what the Yankees need right now if they are going to get the...

Yankees: Are They Done, Yes or No?

The New York Yankees are 1-6 since Colorado, San Francisco, and Baltimore, teams that are a combined 21 under 500. The question is simple. Are The Yankees Done? Yes or No

Will Cashman Sell The Future To Save His Own?

The Yankees' tumble continues as they keep losing to last-place teams. Too many people out there seem to think this collapse means Brian Cashman will trade Phil Hughes. Please!

Clemens Sets Bad Mark

For the first time in 200 starts for future Hall Of Famer Roger Clemens, the Rocket was unable to record a strikeout. So maybe the mid-season move that was supposed to bring the Yankees out of what has been a horrible season, will do nothing but bring another big name into playoff-less season. The Yankees were shutout by the Orioles in this one, losing 4-0. Clemens went into the 6th.

Magic Man Gives Damon Good Ribbing

Apparently the abdominal strain that Johnny Damon had been suffering was not an abdominal injury at all. A quick visit to the DH/ center fielder's infamous chiropractor, Jerry Mattia, in Orlando revealed four "out of place" ribs that were the root of the problem. After two sessions on Monday and Tuesday, Damon claims to "feel like a different person."

A-Breu Dropped to 8 Hole

Entering last night's game at Camden Yards, Yankees right fielder Bobby Abreu was mired in 7-for-42 (.167) slump and had recorded just 2 hits in his last 21 at-bats (.095). As a result, manager Joe Torre gave Abreu the A-Rod Treatment last night, dropping the No. 3 hitter all the way down to the 8 hole. He went 1-for-4 in the 3-2 loss to the Orioles, stranding runners at first...

Thank You, Andy Pettitte

The Yankees of the Joe Torre era have always been known as an emotionless, all-business, no-nonsense team. Things could be going bad but you'd never know it from looking at anyone on the field or in the dugout. Last night that changed when an easy fly ball dropped between Melky Cabrera and Bobby Abreu:
