Baseball Musings:
Over the last month, Willy Taveras has put together the quietest 28 game hit streak of all time. What I found intriguing about this article though is that Baseball Musings calls Taveras a "player likely to go on a long hit streak" because of his approach at the plate which was similar to Dimaggio's. He's a speedy player with a low walk rate meaning he's likely to put the ball in play more often than better offensive talents with much higher OBP's.
"DiMaggio was like this relative to Ted Williams. Ted was the better offensive players, but Joe was more likely to get a hit when he came to the plate. That's why Joe holds the hit streak record, but Ted holds the mark for consecutive games reaching base."
