Remember names like Chris Burke and Luke Scott? Morgan Ensberg and Adam Everett? Why, exactly, did the Houston Astros trade away all their young talent a few years ago? Nothing against guys like Carlos Lee, Kaz Matsui, or Miguel Tejada, but I miss those young guns that used to electrify and exemplify everything that is good about being a Houston Astro. This offseason should be interesting; let’s just hope that Ed Wade and company can make the right calls to help get the 'Stros back on track. We have a lot of talent as is—there’s no doubt. There are a lot of blanks when it comes to what kind of team the Astros will be fielding in 2010, but one thing must be said—please, oh pretty please, let’s not repeat history. We need young talent. We need pitching. But what we don’t need is a brand-new team. Let’s focus on what we’ve got and fill in the spaces between. In my opinion,...

Miguel Tejada's Noodle Arm Exacerbates Brian Moehler's Lousy Pitching

Moehler wasn't exactly sharp in the first, needing 6 pitches to K Stubbs, 6 pitches to get Janish to FO to Bourn, throwing 6 pitches to Votto before he golfed an inside sinker into the RF stands. He was even less sharp in the second - struck out Bruce, then gave up consecutive singles before getting Hannigan to ground out. Then with men on second and third, he got 2 quick strikes...

Paulino Pitches Badly. Miggy Goes 4/4 But Astros Lose To The Reds Again

It didn't start off so badly. Paulino got through the first inning on 12 pitches, giving up only a double to the LF bullpen to Votto. Then Bourn led off with a single and promptly stole second. Miggy hit a single through the 5.5 hole. And there we are, men on first and third, no outs, Berkman and Lee coming up. What could be better, right? Well, Lance hits a bullet to first,...

Houston Astros: I Know It's Difficult, but Let's Focus on the Positives…

Houston, we have a problem. Not that we didn’t already know that as Astros fans, but there are undoubtedly issues that must be fixed as we look towards the end of the 2009 season and beyond. My main hope is that we keep some of the core intact, “veterans” like Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman, along with up-and-comers such as Hunter Pence and Bud Norris. The future...

Game Thread: Reds @ Astronomicals 2009.09.25

Last road trip of the season for the Redlegs. Matt Maloney (1-4, 5.35) goes for his second career win, ex-Red Brian Moehler (8-10, 4.86) makes the start for the boys of Houston. Can anyone explain why the Astros would fire their manager with 13 game left in the season? What’s the point? Enjoy the game, discuss it here.
