PLAYERS: Joe Mauer
TEAMS: Minnesota Twins

Royalstwins_017c
Over at one of my favorite sports blogs, Souvenir City, an argument was posted for Joe Mauer not being the AL MVP. SC makes the argument that the MVP should be taken in team context, not an individual award. I think this is pretty shortsighted. To punish Joe Mauer for his teammates is irresponsible. It [...]

Man Muscles For MVP

Clearly, you all saw this post coming from a mile away, but it's high time BLB weighs in on the controversial "Joe Mauer For MVP" debate. No homerism here, we're just gonna lay out the facts. The cold, hard truth. Yes, we love his sideburns and humble MinnesotaNice with all of our hearts, but sideburns don't earn most valuable player awards. Neither do P'...

Shutting Mauer Down

Let’s say we wake up on the morning of Sept. 14th, and Joe Mauer has over 502 plate appearances and is hitting .400. With three weeks left in the season, do you sit Mauer to guarantee a .400 season? Obviously, if the Twins are still in contention, that doesn’t happen, but what if [...]

Joe Mauer: MVP

You’re simply the best, better than all the rest, better than anyone, anyone I’ve ever met.  -Tina Turner Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  We’re gonna win, Twins!  We’re gonna score.  We’re gonna win, Twins!  Watch that baseball soar.  That baseball sure soars when Mr. Joe Mauer hits it.  Paul Molitor once sad, “Joe Mauer has [...]

Mauer Cycle?

Joe Mauer singles in the seventh to give him three quarters of the cycle. He homered and doubled earlier tonight. The Twins trail the Rangers 7-5 in the seventh, so if Minnesota can mount a comeback, Mauer should get a chance at the triple. Joe is now hitting .381.

Multi-HR Mauer

Joe Mauer homers to straight-away center in the seventh inning to tie the Rangers at six. It was Joe’s second home run of the game as he’s gone two for four so far. That extends his hit streak to 15 games.

Pujols and the Triple Crown

In a comment to the Joe Mauer post, Bill writes: The last thing I’d want to do is take any attention away from my favorite active player, but what do you suppose the odds are of Pujols passing H-Ram for the NL batting title (and thus having a shot at the triple crown)? Obviously there are [...]

Live From Mauer Pauer Tauer, 8.18

Joe Mauer went three-for-five with a homer, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in another Minnesota Twins loss. The batting average is now .380. Well, as some MVP voters like to say, the Twins could have lost without him, right?* *One of the saddest things I have seen is the complete collapse of Minnesota [...]

Hot Old Man

With Hanley Ramirez and Joe Mauer streaking toward batting titles, another great hitter is very hot as well. Derek Jeter knocked out three hits Tuesday night, his third straight three hit game. Since July 24, he’s hitting .375 with seven three hit games and 13 multi-hit games. At .330/.394/..471, is this one [...]

Clear Anti New York Bias in Award Voting

The MVP debate just can’t die. The scribes in Minnesota heard yesterday about the controversy, first started by the NY Times Tyler Kepner on Friday, via their carrier pigeon. I am being facetious of course, but it’s ironic that it took so long to hear from one of the scribes in Joe Mauer’s hometown. Charley Walters [...]

Watch Megdal on SNY’s NYBT

NYBD contributor Howard Megdal was on SNY’s New York Baseball Today with Ted Berg. They discussed CC Sabathia and Howard’s favorite pitcher Oliver Perez. No worries, he didn’t bring up the MVP criteria, Joe Mauer, or Mark Teixeira. He did mention Derek Lowe, who I think would look real nice as a #2 behind Johan [...]
