It's getting to be that part of winter where I'm completely sick of the cold and snow. The one thing that get's me thinking about spring and better weather is when catchers and pitchers report. And for those of you scoring at home - that's February 14th. Mark it down. In the meantime, please ...

Soriano doesn’t care
Well, the people who have been needlessly attacking Soriano for 2 years may be right after all:
“At this point I don’t care,” Soriano said.
I fully expect the morons to be talking about that quote for some time while completely ignoring the rest of that article.
“If the manager wants to move me from leadoff spot, that’s fine. I’m tired because every year [critics...
Cubs payroll update
Earlier today the Cubs signed Paul Bako to a one-year deal worth $750. Bako can earn up to $300,000 additional based on playing time. I’ve updated the Cubs salary page to reflect the recent transactions (Wuertz being signed, and Pie, Olson, and Cedeno being traded). It’s not official that Rich Hill has been traded yet though it appears to be inevitable, but I’ll not remove...
Speed Read - NYT: Urine Links Bonds To Steroids
Barry Bonds may be getting his own Southwest Airlines “wanna get away?” commercial in the near future. The NEW YORK TIMES reported late last night that federal authorities have urine samples believed to belong to Bonds that have tested positive for anabolic steroids, and not just the “cream” and ...
Cubs Sign Bako, Dusty Weeps, Koyie Hill Looks for a New Job
The Cubs have agreed to terms with Paul Bako:
The Cubs finalized a one-year contract with veteran backup catcher Paul Bako, who previously played for the team in 2003-2004. Bako will get a salary in the neighborhood of $500,000, according to multiple reports over the past few weeks, to serve as the backup to reigning National League Rookie of the year Geovany Soto.
Well, I have...
Trade Thoughts
This morning I was running around trying to get my day started, so I didn?t have much time to digest what was going on with this trade (RHP Aaron Heilman to the Cubs in exchange for LHSP Garrett Olson and SS/2B Ronnie Cedeno).? Now I have some time to sit and think about this.
I am [...]
Cubs Wind up With Aaron Heilman
I thought this thread died when Seattle acquired Heilman, but the Cubs, in effect, have gotten rid of Felix Pie and Ronny Cedeno for Aaron Heilman. Pie was traded to Balimore for Garret Olson, who was flipped, along with Cedeno, to Seattle. I reviewed Heilman's stuff not too long ago and ...
QUESTION TO JIM HENDRY WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING
The offseason for the Cubs in the past few years has been exciting as they were able to grab names such as Alfonso Soriano, Derek Lee, and Greg Maddux. But this offseason has many Cubs fans scratching their heads and looking at each other confused. Confused on what direction Jim ...

Bako is Backo
UPDATE: ESPN AM 1000 reports the deal as a $750K non-guaranteed contract that becomes guaranteed if Bako survives (on the roster) to the end of March. Bako gets $150K if he is released before the contract becomes guaranteed, and he can earn an additional $300K in incentive bonuses, based on At Bats (or more likely Plate Appearances?)... -- AZ Phil

No, I’m not Dead
Sorry I’ve been gone everybody. I was just hibernating until pitchers and catchers report like I do every year, but I woke up a little early. Did I miss anything?   A bunch of infuriating trades and confusing signings/non-signings? That sounds just like the Cubs. What’s that you said? They finally sold the team?!?!? Holy crap! [...]
Breaking News: Mariners trade Heilman to the Cubs
Z-Man strikes again! The Mariners have traded recently acquired Aaron Heilman to the Cubs in exchange for a versatile infielder in Roger Cedeno and a lefthanded pitcher, Garrett Olson. More analysis later.[MLB]
Orioles To Acquire Hill?
The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Orioles are closing in on trade for Cubs pitcher Rich Hill. Hill, who is out of options, was once a top pitching prospect for the Cubs, but has failed to find the strike zone the past couple of seasons. Orioles new pitching coach Rick Kranitz is very familiar with Hill, having coached him in Triple-A with the Cubs. It will be interesting to...
Cubs Acquire Heilman
The Cubs have traded shortstop Ronny Cedeno and Garrett Olson to the Mariners for right handed pitcher Aaron Heilman. This move gives the Cubs another option for the five spot in the rotation, joining Sean Marshall, Angel Guzman, and Chad Gaudin in the race for the five spot. Ronny Cedeno's improved plate discipline and slick defense gives the Mariners a solid young player who...
CUBS GET HEILMAN
The Cubs traded Ronny Cedeno and newly acquired pitcher Garrett Olson for Mariners pitcher Aaron Heilman. It’s hard to believe that Heilman is already 30 years
He had an off year in 2008, but he chomps up innings. Cubs fans, here is your new Bob
