From Tyler Kepner:It is all about championships for Derek Jeter, or so he has always said, yet he holds no sentiment for the place where the Yankees last won a title. It was Shea Stadium, the former home of the Mets, where Jeter hugged Luis Sojo in triumph after the last out of the 2000 World Series. And he says he does not miss it. “I’m not trying to be disrespectful, I just didn’t like the stadium,” Jeter said on Sunday, before his first game at Citi Field after two days off with the flu. “The field conditions were not good. Hitting at that stadium was a lot different than playing defense.” The visiting clubhouse at Shea was also uncomfortable, Jeter said, even though that is the last place he sprayed Champagne at the end of a season. Jeter hit .321 in the regular season at Shea, five points better than his career average, and was 5 for 13 with two home runs in the three World Series games there in 2000. Jeter has not had much chance to bask in the surroundings of a nicer home par...

I may be a dyed in the wool Yankee fan, but I can still be unbiased about Shea. It was a dump.

I agree with Lizzy72180...the place was a dump, and I'm NOT just saying that because I'm a Yankee fan, the old Yankee stadium was nothing pretty either, but it Did have alot of great history. It was always fun going there. Both Citi Field and the new Yankee Stadium are gorgeous...

Personally I loved Shea. Yeah I am a huge Mets fan and biased but, I thought the look of it, at least on the inside was nice. And at least it's not in a bad place like Yankee stadium is. Yes, Shea was run down. It doesn't matter anymore. Citi Field is up. Gorgeous stadium. Love it.

As much as I love Citi, Shea still holds a special place in my heart. It had character. Yes, it was a dump, but it was our dump!

A "bad place"?? What does that even mean??
-
I think HC was referring to Da Bronx Lizzy. But hell, I grew up in Flushing and any part of a big city can be a bad place. And as a fellow Yankee fan I just thought I would ask, do you want to kick Joba in the ass as much as I do? Damn, so much talent and he just can't seem to get it together.

Hey giantsrepeat!! I dunno what on Earth she was referring to, but I have to say if she is referring to simply location, then I sure as hell felt safer at the former Yankee then at Shea. Not to start a turf war lol... As for Joba, they need to stick his ass back in the bullpen like they did with Hughes. I think he could really thrive if they put him back there like Hughes is. Knock on wood, but his E.R.A. is just dropping and dropping since he stopped starting.

Yeah, we sure could have used Joba out of the pen against the Angels this weekend. That damn team has our number and I can not figure out why. But third best record in the majors at the break is not too shabby. Hopefully they will figure it out down the stretch. Enjoy the rest of the season and pretty soon it will be football season again, thank God!

How bout Fenway?? Its really nice.. our green monster, and the history behind it... Its a very pretty park.. But then again, I could be biased also.. hahaha... Just wanted to put Fenway out there...

Rating the Two Great Yankees
Pinstripe Alley tries to make the case that Mariano Rivera is a greater Yankee than Derek Jeter. Sorry, I’m not buying it. Over their careers, Jeter produced about 15 more wins than Rivera, or about one per year.
At first blush, you might think Murti’s is an outlandish statement. Think about it, though, and [...]

Now that the Subway Series is over, where do the New York Yankees and Mets stand?

A Cherry On Top Of The Worst Subway Sundae Ever
There are a couple of blogger standbys that I could resort too. But as I type this, I'm not sure which one fits better. I go back and forth between:Proclaiming the 2009 season to be over, done, kaput, or ...Proclaiming that the New York Mets should volunteer for contraction and cease operations. They both sound like decent options.Consider if you will: I wrote a post not so long ago...

Random Thoughts While Watching Baseball on a Sunday Night(The Keeping the Work Week at Bay Edition)Ultimately, there's nothing really wrong with Robinson Cano hitting .300 with 24 home runs and playing pretty good defense at second base. It's just that sometimes you feel he should be doing so much more. Getting on base more. Hitting more consistently over the course of the season...
