NEW YORK — The Yankees just held their workout day press conferences in the Great Hall of Yankee Stadium and there wasn't really much to talk about. There was a little Cliff-CC chatter, a little talk about christening the new place with a World Series and about 300 questions thrown toward Alex Rodriguez(notes) that were all vaguely similar and produced nothing very noteworthy. The highlights? The two Bronx hoodlums who stood outside the gate screaming "Jeeee-taaaaah! Come out and see your fans!" and the guerrilla reporter from Philadelphia who kept parachuting into each interview pod to aggressively ask about Jimmy Rollins'(notes) prediction of Phils in five.To their credit, the Yankees smiled like they hadn't heard the question before (a few others had asked) and acted as if they didn't know it was coming. Jorge Posada(notes), though, was able to lace his response with a little bit of irritation and it was fun to watch. "Nostradamus!" Posa...

J-Roll Is A Confident Man

Jimmy Rollins is either trying to get a rise out of the New York Yankees and their fans, or he's just exercising his psychic powers. (Something Profound About 1999 Goes Here)

When we talk of the Yankees' dynasty at the end of last century, three teams consistently enter our mind:The 1996 squad, a combination of pure grit and utter youth, of the waning days of the likes of Cecil Fielder, Doc Gooden and Jimmy Key, and of the coming out of the likes of Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera (Jorge Posada would debut later). The 1998 team, sheer and...

Yankees return to World Series

NEW YORK | When Mariano Rivera fired a final fastball into Jorge Posada's mitt with flashbulbs popping, Frank Sinatra playing in the background and the New York Yankees subsequently mobbing each other on the mound, the first October at the new Yankee Stadium felt a lot like so many others at the old one. And why shouldn't it? The $1.5 billion palace was built to look like...

Old Yankee Stadium a sad sight (and site) during World Series

NEW YORK — It still stands across the street. Looking like a boarded-up carnival or a resort town whose next summer will never come, old Yankee Stadium finds itself in the unfamiliar position of being an afterthought while there's October baseball still being played in the Bronx. No more getting ready to receive thousands of bundled-up New Yorkers with World Series dreams...
