The Brewers released Jorge Julio, eating the remainder of his $950,000 contract, and summoned journeyman Mike Burns from Class AAA Nashville. The 30-year-old right-hander was 6-2 with a 2.98 earned run average in 10 starts for the Sounds, and more important, was throwing strikes (11 walks in 63 1/3 innings).

A day after surrendering 4 earned runs without retiring a single hitter, Milwaukee has cut ties with Jorge Julio Tuesday. The release comes in the wake of the reliever’s 15 miserable appearances that left him with a 7.79 ERA. Mike Burns has been promoted from triple-A Nashville to take Julio’s roster spot.
