Kenny Rogers Headed to the DL

Remember last year when four of the Tigers starting pitchers (Verlander, Rogers, Bonderman, Robertson) made it through the entire season without once heading to the DL...yeah, that's really rare. Rogers is already hurt and and the added innings from last year's postseason and subsequent shorter offseason shouldn't help Detroit's other starters. Expect either slow starts or second half nosedives from what was the league's most consistent staff in 2006.

As a Tigers fan, I am incredibly worried about the pitching staff this year, especially after watching them log so many innings last year. Just look at Verlander -- he threw over 200 innings, at least 50 over his previous career high at any level. Maybe if I close my eyes, this will eventually just go away, and the rest of the staff can stay healthy for the rest of the season...

I'd be super worried too. I do believe the Tigers did as good of a job as they possibly could with Verlander. I mean, what were they supposed to do with him when they're trying to win a WS? They did rest him at times, but the fact is, like you said, he threw 50+ innings. Bonderman is a horse, but Kenny's old and I'm not entirely sold on Robertson. We'll see, but it's no coincidence the White Sox staff suffered the year after they won the WS. Throwing those extra postseason innings definitely affects pitchers the following season.
