Cubs 2009 2nd round pick D. J. LeMahieu (LSU) made his professional debut tonight at Fitch Park in Mesa, going 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, leading the AZL Cubs to a 4-1 victory over the AZL Brewers in Arizona League action.

LeMahieu hit 3rd and was the DH, and in his very first pro AB he slammed a triple off the RF fence, using his long-stride speed to make it to third base well in advance of the relay throw from the AZL Brewers 2nd baseman. LeMahieu struck out (swinging) on a head- high fastball on his next trip to the plate in the third, and he bounced out on a two chopper to the first-baseman (unassisted) in the 6th.

According to Chicago Tribune writer Paul Sullivan, the Cubs’ lone All-Star is likely heading to the disabled list.

Chicago Cubs Pitcher Ted Lilly to DL
According to David Kaplan, Chicago TV and radio broadcaster, Chicago Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly is headed to the DL. He had some insight into Lilly's arthrogram that took place on Friday.
Lilly, the team's only all-star, was putting up great numbers throughout the season. This will likely be a huge blow to the Cubs, who are all ready in catch-up mode.
Kevin Hart has already...

CUBS IN BRIEF: Timing of his DL stint frustrates lefty Lilly
As expected, pitcher Ted Lilly, the Cubs' lone All-Star, was put on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with left shoulder inflammation.
In the thick of things
It appears the only thing impeding the Cubs' chances of making a run at the National League Central title is the highly contagious injury bug they just can't seem to shake. From Aramis Ramirez to Ryan Dempster to Geovany Soto to Ted Lilly, injuries certainly have been a factor. It's a good thing for the Cubs that their rookies continue to step in and contribute.
Lying Liars and the Lies They Tell
The Cub blogosphere was all abuzz around the 4th inning with rumor it now appears was a pure fiction, created by Former Playgirl Model Steve Stone and Mark Derosa Restraining Order recipient David Kaplan. The Former Playgirl Model tweeted that Detroit was interested in acquiring Milton Bradley. (We would’ve linked to the Former Playgirl Model’s tweets, but he has protected...

Cubs manager Lou Piniella has said he's comfortable with his bench and especially the play of Jake Fox in a variety of roles. But more offense remains on his wish list as the non-waiver trade deadline nears.
DW's Thought Of The Week: Does Sanchez Make Sense For The Chicago Cubs
So I was looking around for any trade news that I could find on the Chicago Cubs, and there was nothing of interest. There were some quotes from the Chicago Sun Times saying the Cubs have financial flexibility to make some moves at the deadline.
Browsing the general section, I noticed Freddy Sanchez being linked with the Mariners and several other teams, but there is no mention of...
