Twins catcher, and this year's likely AL MVP is suffering from a hip flexor injury that he suffered when he fell rounding first base in the tie-breaker game against the Tigers last week. He told Ron Gardenhire "I am a catcher, no matter what you say.", but he also had these quotes via Jack Curry of the Times:“I’m not feeling too well right now,” Mauer said. “I slowed up a little bit. We had our chances to win. We had the bases loaded.”“Just not feeling great,” he said. “We got a playoff game. I got pretty banged up. What can you do?”Great players -- and Joe Mauer is a great player -- tend to dig down deep for something extra when everything is on the line. Mauer could do the same. At the very least he'll be out there behind the plate giving it everything he's got. Still, this can't be good news for the Twins.

Phil Cuzzi Blew It
(Photo by Reuters Pictures. Makes you wonder what Phil Cuzzi was looking at. Joe Mauer's no-doubt ground rule double in the 11th was ruled a foul ball by umpire Phil Cuzzi, despite the fact that the ball landed at least a foot fair before bouncing into the stands. Ignore the fact that Mauer eventually singled and the Twins loaded the bases with no outs, but failed...
Mauer not 100%
Joe Mauer didn’t score on a single last night because he’s hurting:
Joe Mauer had caught 10 innings for Minnesota on Friday night as he stood on second base, representing the go-ahead run in the 11th inning. When Michael Cuddyer rapped a sharp single to center field, Mauer ran to third and did not try to [...]
Horrible Call
Joe Mauer hits a ball down the leftfield line that ticks off Melky Cabrera’s glove and lands in fair territory. It touched his glove in fair territory. The umpire called it foul. What’s going on in these division series? Mauer ends up singling up the middle, but he should of had [...]
One of Each
A.J. Burnett gets a fly out, ground out and strikeout in the first, along with a walk to Joe Mauer. It’s an example of Burnett strategically walking a tough hitter. I’m not really that cool with giving batters free passes, but Burnett seems to be making it work.
Update: Blackburn gets a grounder and [...]
Blown Call Raises Questions
After witnessing umpire Phil Cuzzi's blown call in last night's Twins-Yankees game, the Biz of Baseball is calling for MLB to expand its use of instant replay.
Should instant replay be expanded in wake of Friday's blown call?

Burnett Wild Again
With two out in the fifth, Burnett walks Orlando Cabrera and Joe Mauer. That’s the second inning in a row he put two on without a hit with two out. The Yankees got lucky last inning with a base running blunder.
Joba in the Seventh
Joba Chamberlain starts the seventh and gets the first two batters before giving up a hit to Joe Mauer. Girardi takes him out at that point, making me wonder if Joba is on a pitch count. For those of you wondering where Joba’s velocity went this year, he was hitting 95 or better [...]

Chad Jennings reports that the Twins have placed third baseman Matt Tolbert on the DL with a pulled oblique. He hit .235 with a .360 OBA (no typos there) in 164 plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Twins catcher Joe Mauer isn't "feeling too well," acc...
