TEAMS: New York Yankees
I started this post a long time ago and scrapped it but I think its time to revisit it.Melky Cabrera's comeback year has been no secret. He's come back from a season where most onlookers, detractors and fans of his alike, left him for dead to have the best year of his short career. He's stepped in for Brett Gardner well and the Yankees have not missed a beat. His line of .275/.337/.437 is not going to blow anybody away. However, considering the circumstances it presents a very interesting situation.First of all, Melky is only a few days past his 25th birthday. Although he is already a veteran and it seems like he's been around forever, he is probably just beginning to approach his ceiling. He has reversed a three year trend of declining offensive numbers and is playing the best defense of his career, saving the team a few extra runs out in centerfield. Besides that, their is the added bonus of his penchant for getting the big hit late in the game. He has been nothing...

I really hope they keep 'em. I love him...

I second that melkyway, he is a gamer and while Gardner may be a bit faster in the outfield, Melky is no slouch out there. I hope he stays a Yankee as well.

Some Patience for Joba?
After last night's start by Joba I've been reading nothing but criticism across the blogosphere for it. Now if it were Andy Pettitte or Sergio Mitre throwing this game, we'd be congratulating them on a gritty performance in which they got through six innings and gave the team a chance to win. We'd be talking about how its great that they only gave up four runs when...
Sherman: Damon Could Be Back, But Not Matsui
Yesterday on the blog there was a lot of talk about next year's outfield. Today, Joel Sherman had this on his blog about Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui, and their futures with the Yankees.I wrote in spring training about what a fascinating case Hideki Matsui will be in the coming offseason and now that the offseason is even closer I have not changed my opinion. I wondered if...

More back-to-back magic leads Yanks to victory
Joba Chamberlain was bad last night, but he and the rest of the team were bailed out by back-to-back home runs by Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada last night, as the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays 7-5.Chamberlain blew a 3-0 lead in the third inning when he allowed a three-run double to Lyle Overbay. He then served up a solo shot to Randy Ruiz, a 31-year-old who played in his 23rd...
Create-a-Caption: Robinson Cano blinded by A.J. Burnett
Despite my protestations, Yankees pitcher A.J. Burnett continues with his oh-so-hilarious shaving cream pie war against his high-flying teammates. Here, the $80 million man derives joy the only way he knows how ... by walloping teammate Robinson Cano after Wednesday's walkoff, hastily placing the fluff in a towel and rushing past the crew to pull off his attack. Hey, we all get...
NY Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain will skip next turn in the rotation
NEW YORK -- Another day, another set of questions about Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain. Manager Joe Girardi announced Wednesday morning that Chamberlain (8-2, will make his next start on Wednesday in Oakland and will skip his turn in the rotation...
X-rays come back negative for NY Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and third baseman Alex Rodriguez
NEW YORK -- Both Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez were hit by pitches in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over Toronto. X-rays on both (Jeter's right foot, Rodriguez's left arm) came back negative. But Yankees manager Joe Girardi still worried that both...
If Derek Jeter tests positive, that's it
If Yankees' captain ever ended up on positive test list, baseball's done
MATSUI, POSADA GIVE YANKS POWERFUL WIN
You've heard the term a bloop and a blast. Last night, it was more like a blast and a bloop. First up was Hideki Matsui. Second up was Jorge Posada. The Yankees struck late again, with Matsui and Posada launching back-to-back homers to open last...

Jorge & A.J. misconnect on wild day
A.J. Burnett missed Jorge Posada altogether three times, to go along with the two walks and 10 hits that forced him to wiggle free of trouble all afternoon - the Jays left runners on base in 10 of 11 innings.
New York Yankees at Seattle Mariners: 08/13 game thread
Will we get 613 comments on tonight's game thread, just like last night. Hopefully, if we do, they will come in a little quicker because I don't want to sit here for 14 innings again. Fun as last night was.
By the way, catcher Rob Johnson confirmed pre-game that the pickoff of Scott Podsednik at third base in last night's 10th inning was a set-play between him and third...

Did The Yankees Give Up Too Soon On Ross Ohlendorf?
When you look back at some of the trades the Yankees have made, you wonder about some of the younger players that left and never got a chance to fully develop.
One player immediately comes to mind and that's Ross Ohlendorf.
Some of the newer Yankee fans may not remember him pitching, mostly because he wasn't on the team for very long.
Two years ago, Ohlendorf was part of...
