The Mets have signed Wily Mo Pena to a minor league deal. Pena had refused a minor league assignment with the Washington Nationals during spring training so I thought it was interesting that he’d accept a minor league deal here. Turns out that there is a clause in the contract that allows him [...]

Nationals Might Want To Hire a Proofreader

Notice anything strange about this picture?A typo in a media guide, on a blog or website, or in a program is one thing. But how does the front of a jersey reading "NATINALS" get by the seamstress, equipment manager and the players that put it on?(Image courtesy of D.C. Sports Bog)

Ryan Zimmerman Extension: Good or Bad?

Lots of Nationals talk here lately, and I for one, am loving it. There is nothing better than a 1-11 club getting all the pub.Anyway, for those who missed it, the Nationals have locked up third baseman Ryan Zimmerman to a 5 year/$45 million dollar extension. The fantastic David Pinto, from baseballmusings.com, weighs in:Washington may be stuck with him, too. I?m just not that high...

Majestic Athletic Issues Apology for NATINALS Jerseys

"I'd like to buy a vowel, Pat." Majestic Athletic issues an apology for the misspelling of NATIONALS on Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn's jerseys.(Click to see in larger view)  It was, well... something you don't see everyday. But, during Saturday's game at Nationals Park, Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn had jerseys that read: NATINALS -- the "O"...

How Low Can You Go? Washington Nationals Attendance

Nationals Park, sparsely attended last season Even with a $611 million public investment, back in 2004-2005 there was a lot of talk by baseball boosters in the D.C. area that droves of fans coming from northern Virginia would spend their discretionary income in and around the new ballpark for the Washington Nationals, thus off-setting the public outlay. The problem is, you have to...

The Associated Press and the National Football League today announced an exclusive agreement that makes the AP the worldwide licensing agent of NFL still images for commercial use.  Under the agreement, the AP will be able to sell its own NFL images, reserved until now for editorial purposes, for commercial use. In addition, the AP will now license NFL-owned event photos for commercial...

Mac Is Back For Game Vs. Nats

After missing two games with blurred vision in his left eye, Brian McCann has been tentatively written into the linup for tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals.  Mac has been suffering from the blurred vision issues over the past two weeks and had tried a series of options including a contact lens and an antibiotic [...]

MLB News, Notes, Stats, and Opinion

The Florida Marlins may have gotten off to a 11-1 start but they do not impress me at all. The media has given them too much credit just because they got off to a good start. They have lost their last two games and are now 11-3.The Marlins got off to a great start mainly because they played the lowly Washington Nationals six times already. They have now come back down to earth and...

1/3/07 The Complicated History and Mystery of Wily Mo Pena?

It took me about ten minutes of searching to find out what baseball-reference.com meant in their "Transactions" section of Wily Mo Pena's stat page, when they wrote that Pena's contract was "voided" seven months after the Mets had signed the sixteen-year old amateur free agent out...

Spelling Not Just a Problem for DC Schools

Washington, D.C. schools are a mess and people have been trying desperately to improve them over the years. Even so, even the public school supporting Obama family passed them up in favor of a private school. But apparently the problem goes beyond the schools, to the interior of the Washington Nationals ballpark. A ballpark that is ironically located near one of the traditionally...

Brian McCann Cannot Believe The Braves Lost to the Nationals

Surgeon General's Warning: Losing to the 3-10 Washington Nationals may cause dilated pupils and a grave amount of shock. And on a side note, Brian McCann went to the eye doctor yesterday to get new contacts for blurred vision!(photo: AP)

Pena a good signing

I thought it would have been a good move for the Mets to acquire Wily Mo Pena from the Nationals when he was still under contact, so to get him on a minor league deal is a no lose situation in my opinion. Pena is a 27 y/o right handed power bat who can play left field and 1B. He is projected to be a much better offensive player then he's shown to this point in his career, which...

What's Beef?

Beef is misspelling your own team's name to throw shade on a regional rival.By now, it's been pretty widely publicized that the Nats sent two of their own onto the field this weekend in jerseys that read "Natinals." There are any number of explanations, most of which involve incompetence or ineptness, but theory I choose to subscribe to is this: In the 34 years...

D.C. Baseball History - It Hasn't Been This Bad for 105 Years

(by Mark Hornbaker) As bad as it is right now for our 1-10 Washington Nationals it was even worse for the 1904 Washington Senators ball club. The 1904 Washington Senators started the season with a 0-13-1 record. The Senators finally won their first game of the year on May 5th when they beat the New York Yankees 9-4.
