Another Cubs Blog:
After last night’s win the Cubs activated Aaron Miles from the disabled list and optioned Jake Fox to AAA. In other news, Lou says he’s sticking with Carlos Marmol in the 8th inning, which is kind of stubborn.
‘‘I told him today I’ve got all the confidence in the world in him, and I haven’t even thought about removing him from that spot,’’ Piniella said, adding that the way to get Marmol out his funk is to ‘‘just keep pitching him. He’s working.’‘
27 walks in 27 innings. Strikeouts are way down too. I don’t believe Lou has confidence in Marmol or they wouldn’t have gotten the bullpen up the other night after Marmol walked the first batter. That’s not confidence.

What is this fascination with Aaron Miles? He's a glorified reserve who isn't going to even be with the team next season. Why Fox? Get him some experience!

Paul Sullivan, refusing to bury the lede:
A controversy-free day for Carlos Zambrano is as rare as a Chicago winter without potholes.
In the last two weeks, Zambrano has smashed a Gatorade dispenser, bumped an umpire, received a six-game suspension, missed the team charter and announced he would retire at the end of his contract.
How pithy. A Paul Sullivan column without a thinly...

Cubs staying afloat, thanks to Fukudome
By the middle of last season, Kosuke Fukudome was the only Cubs hitter in a steady, lengthy slump. By the time the season ended, the Cubs were the top offensive team in the National League, and Fukudome was their biggest disappointment -- a $48 million Japanese All-Star relegated to September bench player.
Poor Cubs
The Cubs failed to score against Russ Ortiz in the first five innings of their game against the Astros. They’ve collected two hits, one of them by the opposing pitcher Ryan Dempster. This is turning into an embarrassing game for the Chicago offense.
Z's strong; hitters aren't
Carlos Zambrano definitely didn't retire yet. But the Cubs' hitters might have, the way their bats turtled again the day after it looked like they might be ready to finally start stretching their offensive production. ''We've just got to score runs. What can I say?'' manager Lou Piniella said, exasperated again by lack of hitting after a 2-1 loss in Houston...
