Game # 60?? Tue. June 3, 2008
Cardinals 6??? Nationals 1
The Cardinals first trip to Nationals Park saw a rain delay that was longer than the actual game.? It was a long, frustrating, wet night in the nation's capital, but in the end the Cardinals ended up with a win.? Yadier Molina popped a three run shot in the first inning as the Cards put six runs on the board before the Nationals scored.? Kyle Lohse earned his 6th win of the year.? Here is my analysis of the game:
Performance of the Game:? Yadier Molina
What Went Right:
1.? Kyle Lohse - Lohse allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 5 innings, improving to 6-2 on the season.? Lohse has been solid as of late and with Pineiro on the DL, Lohse is all the more important to this rotation.
2.? Yadi - Yadi got his average up to .295, going 2 for 5 with 3 RBI's Tuesday.? He is an All-Star in my opinion.? His offense is GREATLY improved from past seasons and he is as solid as ever behind the dish.? He is quietly one of the most iportant leaders on the squad.
3.? Mark Worrell - He made his major league debut, tossing a scoreless 9th inning.? His delivery is unusual and keeps the batters on their toes.? His sidearm pitches work to his advantage, as I saw here in Memphis.? He is a good arm and I can see him being part of the Cardinals' bullpen for years to come.
What Went Wrong:
1.? Brian Barton - Why does Tony keep starting him?? Skip Schumaker has EARNED a starting nod and that isn't even up for debate.? Tony tends to over manage at times, especially with the whole lefy/righty matchup thing.
2.? Albert Pujols - He hurt his calf muscle and will likely miss a few games.? The plan is to scoot Troy Gluas over to first base, and let Brendan Ryan start at third.? Another option would be to play Joe Mather at first base, a position he often played in the minors.
The win puts the Cardinals at 35-25 on the year, 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs.? Tomorrow, Todd Wellemeyer will try to continue his May success, but the weather could keep him from getting a chance.? The forecast calls for heavy rains on Wednesday.? But who knows?

No Game On A Wet Wednesday
Wed. June 4, 2008
Tonight's game in D.C. was postponed due to rain.? Tomorrow the Cardinals and Nationals will play a double header.? Tomorrow is also the day of the draft, so we should have plenty to talk about.? And maybe with two games tomorrow, the Nationals can have 30,000 fans show up (that is, if they add both attendance figures together).
