Manager Ron Washington said late Thursday that right-hander Dustin Nippert is the likely choice to start the first-half finale Sunday at Seattle. Nippert made his 2009 debut Tuesday in a start against the Angels, allowing three runs in 3 2/3 innings. He threw only 72 pitches and said he could have handled more, but he fell behind too many hitters and was having trouble locating his fastball.

Yes Virginia, There is an Andruw Jones
Andruw Jones is making headlines for something other than his weight. Wednesday night, the big free agent wash-out of 2008 slammed three homers for the Texas Rangers, leading the team to an 8-1 victory over the Angels.
“That’s what Andruw is capable of,” teammate Michael Young raved. “That’s not the first time he’s shown power; he’s [...]

Rangers win 6-4

On Left Field
Laynce Nix against right-handers: .256/.310/.506.
Jonny Gomes against left-handers: .360/.407/.620.
Why can’t we see these two guys in a strict platoon in left field? It just makes too much sense.
(Of course, Gomes is hitting .250/.391/.500 vs. right-handers, too. Small sample sizes all.)

Random Rangers thoughts on last night's loss
The Rangers couldn't hold the 1-0 lead and fell 3-1 to the Mariners. The loss puts them just a 1/2 game in front of the Angels and 3 1/2 ahead of Seattle.
A few thoughts:
• C.J. Wilson. He's pitched very well the last few months, so a bump in the road was to be expected. Wilson and the Rangers talked about the walk to Ken Griffey Jr. being the at-bat that hurt. No...
Rangers, Mariners scoreless after three
Felix Hernandez has allowed only one a hit, a one-out single by Hank Blalock in the second, but Tommy Hunter pitched around three singles and a walk as the Rangers and Mariners enter the fourth inning in a scoreless tie. The Mariners threated in the second as their first two hitters reached, but Hunter retired the next three. Elvis Andrus made a nifty stop, turn and throw to second...

How do you handle the outfield rotation?
The great news for manager Ron Washington is he has depth in the outfield. The bad news is that means sitting someone every night that could be in the lineup.
The last three games, the odd man out has been Nelson Cruz. Why? Well, Andruw Jones has been swinging the bat well and had three homers on Wednesday, so you can't take him out of the lineup Thursday, can you? David Murphy...
