Fresh off a sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewhas (also known as the Pirates' Daddy) on Sunday, the Pirates made a small move, signing pitcher Jorge Julio to a minor-league deal. The Buccos will be Julio's 10th organization since 2005. He's also suited up for the Orioles, Mets, D-Backs, Marlins, Rockies, Indians, Braves, Brewers, and most recently, the Rays' minor league Durham affiliate. Sounds like a keeper.
The 30-year-old, 6'1" Julio probably peaked in 2003 while saving 36 games for the Orioles. His most recent action in the bigs was with Milwaukee earlier this season, where he was 1-1 with a 7.79 ERA in 17 1/3 innings. He was 6th in the NL in wild pitches in 2006, so there's always the chance of some excitement when he takes the hill. Unfortunately, he'll report to Indianapolis and not Pittsburgh, so we have to temper our Jorge Julio Fever until a later date.
As for the 53-75 Buccos, they resume play on Monday with a doubleheader against Cincinnati.
