In this week’s edition of “Ask Paul,” the Frumpy Hobbit fields an excellent question from one S. Atkins of Sacramento: Paul, Good article about Milton Bradley. The guy is struggling, frustrated and embarrassed he’s been bad, but he’s certainly not the whole problem. If someone wanted to write a manual about how to mess with this guy’s psyche, they would suggest putting him in Chicago or New York and starting off by unfairly (in his mind) writing negative articles about him. This is a guy who needs fan support and who will come around if people show him a little love. He’s ours, for three years so why not try?—S. Akins, Sacramento Holy screaming eagle ****. S. Atkins sounds like our kind of person. Which means Paul will be intimidated by the shocking use objectivity and reason ans respond like a notorious douchebag. Oh, joy: Answer: Regarding Bradley’s treatment, I don’t think Cubs fans have been harsh at all, much less the media. Bradley hasn’t been booed nearly as much as Jim Edmonds was when he came to the Cubs last year. But Edmonds answered with his bat, becoming one of their best clutch hitters and winning over most of the fans by the middle of the summer. All it will take for Bradley to do likewise is emulate Edmonds, if that’s possible. Two things about Edmonds: one, when he came here, he looked washed up and bad until the recently departed Gerald Perry (who was also Milton’s clubhouse confidant) unfucked his swing. Two, Edmonds played for the ******* Cardinals and had had more than a few incidents with Cub pitchers due to his hot-rodding douchebaggery after hitting HR. So, it was no shock that Cubs fans booed his ass. More to the point, it’s flatly false to say Bradley is booed less than Edmonds. I haven’t seen Cub fans get on a player like this since Jacque Jones. Secondly, Paul’s already admitted on live TV, as well as in this month’s VineLine, that he provides unfavorable coverage to players who are rude to him. And we know that he thinks Milton was rude to him, so it’s more than reasonable to assume he provides unfairly negative coverage on Milton. Just going off what you said, Paul, so why patronize S. Atkins with what is clearly a baldfaced lie? It’s simply disingenuous at this point to try and put forth any pretense that your work is at all fair and balanced. It’s not, and we know that because you admitted it. Twice. But it’s Paul’s last sentence that’s most telling. Everything would change if Bradley could be like Edmonds. Play some D. Hit some baseballs. Yeah, that’s the ticket, Paul. Be more like Edmonds. Like, for instance, Bradley could open a strip joint: Or, he could invent a new way of congratulating teammates: Or he could adopt a new sort of locker room apparel: Yeah, I’m sure all that would endear him to Cub fans.

Cubs Take 3 of 4 From Brewers; Get Healthy Tomorrow

I didn’t see much of the game today so I won’t talk much about it. The Cubs won and took 3 of the 4 games over the weekend against the Brewers. This was a huge series for the Cubs and they stepped up. They’ve played great baseball at home all season. The offense has come to life, but they also haven’t faced much good pitching of late. Still, they’...

Derrek Lee Grand Slam: the Original Soundtrack Recording

bodman pointed out in the game wrap how Len Kasper somehow kills the excitement on his home run calls, and noted how even a replay of Pat Hughes’ call gave him goosebumps. Pat has a way of doing that. I was listening to the game on Gameday Audio and on that call, Pat transported me instantly back into the 1980s with a call that was totally inspired by Harry Caray. I raved...
