The Rays appeared to have their World Series ticket punched as they led 7-0 against the Red Sox in the 7th inning. Boston proved otherwise after homers by David Ortiz and J.D. Drew brought them back into the game and then the Sox won in the bottom of the 9th, 8-7. It was a miraculous comeback for a team that has had many in their history and will keep the ALCS going. The Rays still lead 3-2 and they are headed back home, but you have to believe the Red Sox have all the momentum right now. For the Phillies, it means they can continue to sit back and relax as it appears the Rays and Red Sox have a lot more to settle. Let them beat up on each other and let the Phillies take care of the worn-out winner. Click for more on the Phillies!

  • I couldnt belive my eyes man!!! My article still stands true!! Yes! And teh Sox are still alive!! We've been thru this MANY times...
  • Let them keep playing, the phils will only get a chance to rest up.
  • yeah and what happened to the rockies last year with all that rest??
  • Be great to see that series go to 7 games. Its already great that Shields has to pitch another game. Sox are done though, just a matter of 6 or 7 games.
  • I agree. They looked outmatched the entire game.(except the end of course) The rays are solid.. This is an interesting rivalry.
  • I believe taking Kazmir out was the Rays big mistake. I know the Rays had a long top of the 7th but it wasn't like Kazmir wasn't goin to get any rest. Now I would agree that the momentum has shifted. When a young team blows a 7 run lead and a veteran team comes back from that kind of deficit you had to be worried if you are a Rays fan. As a Cleveland fan I know what this team can do. I forseen it coming last year. I think the Rays have the talent to win this and they have an advantage of going home for the next games but they have to find a way to forget what just happened to them. Good Luck!
  • i turned this gaqme on in the 7th inning, thinking it would be a good game.....

it was 7-0.. i said ok philies are playin tampa .. this gamesover

    WTF THAT REALLY HAPPENED

    CRAZY STUFF
  • I turned it off in the 7th thinking the game was over, why watch the misery! I wish I could go back!!!!
  • No kidding! I stayed up, but only because I was drinkin!
  • You know who else was looking forward to the 'worn out winner'? The 2004 Cardinals and the 2007 Rockies. Just saying. (the chief from HHR)
  • Ha, I was going to say the exact same thing.... "That worked out pretty well for the Rockies and Cards, too"
  • I know right. If the Sox are to go to the WS, just bcuz we're older and we have played up to 7 games doesnt mean that we'll get to tired to play. The Rockies had a WHOLE week off, and that extra rest hurt them. So did the Cards who finished their series quickly too. Just bcuz you finish your series early doesnt mean you have an advantage. The recent Rockies are a perfect example. A whole WEEK off!! That really mess their team up. They couldnt be physical bcuz they rested to much.
  • You guys don't know your history! Here are two instances where teams with more time off won the World Series:
2005: White Sox had 5 days off and won
1996: Yankees had 6 days off and won

So, it goes both ways, you can stop killing me now!
  • Thank you Enriquefed!
  • Since something happened 2 times in the past ten years.... that's your proof? We're talking about 2 teams that played this Sox team (assuming they'll make it) in the past 4... let's look at our sample sizes here. Geez.
  • Exactly, it's about sample sizes. We both have two examples. Move along.
  • Seriously? "For the Phillies, it means they can continue to sit back and relax as it appears the Rays and Red Sox have a lot more to settle. Let them beat up on each other and let the Phillies take care of the worn-out winner."
I don't even know what to say about this. Do you follow baseball? At all?
  • Do you know baseball? At all?
See above, 1996 and 2005, two times when teams rested up and won the Series. Thanks.
  • Bo knows baseball...
  • I know it's a huge comeback and all and they've "done this before" but I really think the Rays and Maddon lost this game more then the Sox won it. The Sox look old and outmatched, no magic this time.
  • sox fans are acting like 2 wins at the trop is a no brainer, a piece of cake... it's not going to happen. last night was cute and all, but they're done. maddon will have his crew playing to win tomorrow, instead of playing to not lose. rays up!
  • Whether the sox win the next two is irrelevant. What we observed last night was HISTORY. I had chills watching Ortiz and Drew homeruns and then Drew's double. Just before Drew's home run the announcer said " Wouldn't this be a good time to show off that Mickey Mantle power. Did anyone else catch that.. how chillyyy
  • yes the red sox won it again but it is short lived the rays are going to the world series...
  • I THANK THAT THE PHILLIES HAVE A BETTER CHANGE OF WINNING IF WE PLAY THE RED SOX.
  • Two of my kids live in Boston but they are true Phillies fans who have no problem showing it or acting like it. If it comes down to Phillies vs. Sox they've got to get out of town for a few days! For this reason only, I'm hoping the Rays win!
  • It won't matter...this is a team on a mission. They've been getting outstanding pitching and we haven't even seen them get hot at the plate yet. You have to like Old Man Moyer against such a young, free swinging team like Tampa....not to mention Cole's changeup. We could be in trouble with Myers and Blanton though.
  • The Rays will win it, Joe Madden is a cool customer, and his team plays with confidence. The comeback was amazing but the Rays will right the ship. Hell, it's not like the Rays were booting the ball all over the field, they only made one error. The Red Sox just put together timely hits, and Big Papi finally had a homer with ducks on the pond when they really needed one. And how stupid do you think all those Red Sox fans must have felt when they started filing out of Fenway when it was 7-0? And Sox fans call other teams fans front runners, Pleeeeeeease, those fans quit on their team. A real fan stays to the end so you can at least give your team a standing "O" for a good season. I'll say this, if Boston can somehow come back and win this series, I will tip my cap to them. Yes, a Yankees fan will give the Red Sox kudos.
  • You really just need to call them your daddy....they've owned ya
  • In recent years I will agree with you on that dtrick. But we will reload and be right back at it next year. It's fun to root for a team that puts it's money where it's mouth is and is in the hunt year after year. Be cool.

Red Sox: Keeping Hope Alive

You must not surrender! We must never surrender! Keep hope alive. Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive! On tomorrow night and beyond, keep hope alive! -Jesse Jackson

And you thought the Red Sox were done?

I'll admit that there was a point in last night's game where I was pretty sure the season was over. Being down 7-0 in the bottom of the 7th inning seems like one of those moments where you start wondering about free agents in the offseason and how the club will look in 2009. Hell, I even took a few Tylenol PM halfway through the game because I didn't feel like there...

A Great Awakening

Pete's Rose Writes Again! Thank you Red Sox! After a long dormant spell of around 11 months, Pete's Rose is once again heard on Baseball Reflections and it took the second best comeback in baseball playoff history to do it. I woke up this morning realizing that I don't have what it takes to be a Red Sox fan. And I have the feeling I'm in very good company, although...

A Reason To Believe

If ever there was a testament to what can happen when guys just go out there and battle and compete, no matter what the score, this was it. You always hear about how it's not over until it's over, and then you see something like this to believe it. We were just grinding out at-bats and playing solid defense, because you never know what's going to happen. This...
