The good news is that he seems to found a causal link between his crippling depression and playing baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He's tearing up minor league hitters now, but has no desire to be called back up because that would require playing more games for a city that he doesn't like and hasn't been too kind to him in return. "Sometimes people do stupid stuff and I had to fight it, not to do something stupid and take my life for myself and from my family and my parents," Snell told the station. Ok, that's ... ominous. So a happy Ian Snell is an effective pitcher, but it's pretty much impossible ...

Freddy Sanchez next?
DK is reporting today that the Pirates are 'pushing' a trade of Freddy Sanchez, with either Colorado or San Francisco. I don't have time for much speculation on return right now, but I'd encourage you guys to engage in it on your own. If he goes to San Francisco, I feel pretty certain that another Sanchez, Jonathon, would headline the trade back in our direction...
Freddy Sanchez Could be the Next Pirate Shipped Out of Pittsburgh
by Pat LackeyFiled under: Pirates, NL Central, MLB RumorsWith two trades already under his belt, it's clear that Pirates' GM Neal Huntington is intent on setting the trade market this year, rather than waiting for it to be set by someone else. Fun with 1st half numbers – And a quick Pirates preview
After that 22 run laugher in the first game of the series, I expected the Phillies to, as they usually do after big run games, stop scoring runs all together for a week or so. They struggled with runners in scoring position the next two games, but broke out last night and finished off the series win.

Who's on First for Pittsburgh Pirates?: Is it Pedro Alvarez?
Much has been made of the status of current Pirates first baseman Adam LaRoche.
It seems like everyone is waiting for his hot streak to start—and then for him to be traded to someone in dire need of a first baseman who can hit down the stretch.
The problem that the Pirates have in trading LaRoche really has nothing to do with his salary. The Pirates could take on...
