Reggie, Orlando, Vlady

One of the biggest keys to our offense and our scoring runs early has been Reggie Willits. He always gets on base. Everytime you look up he works the count to 3 and 2 and then he either walks or gets a hit. And right behind him, Orlando Cabrera is a great situational hitter. He puts runners in scoring position. It's all about getting runners on in front of Vlady. He does the damage. Just look at what happened in the fifth last night. Reggie gets on to start the inning, Orlando follows and Vlady hits it out to put us up for good. That's what I'm talking about.

We have been doing a lot of that early, scoring runs in the first inning. b0rd3rline asked me a question about the early run support and how it helps the pitchers. It gives the pitcher more confidence to just throw strikes. When you have runs on the board you know that one pitch isn't going to kill you so you can be a little more aggressive. Most pitchers are at their best when they're aggressive and having the lead early helps you do that.

best damn pitcher on the best damn show nice

Reggie really has made a huge difference at the top of the lineup...Aybar made a nice defensive contribution at third last night also...

John, I agree the guys in front of Vdad get things going but there's nobody to protect Vlad these days, if he wasn't such a good bad-ball hitter you guys would be struggling to score runs. Somebody's gotta atep up and make sure Vlad gets some decent pitches to hit. Oh, and love the blog, keep up the good work!

I love watching Reggie...he's pretty consistent with his hits and we can count on him. I'm really glad he is doing so well for the team :)

haha, thanks for the shoutout john!!

it seems like just a few weeks ago i was looking through the lineup and wondering how we were gonna go anywhere with nobody hitting except for Vlad.. now, just a few weeks later, i look at the lineup to see the first 5 hitters in the lineup hitting .300, with howie, napoli, hillenbloop, and figgy following.. let's just say it makes me feel a whole lot better about our chances this year.

keep up the good work, and lets win against baltimore today!!

you are right - the offense has started to really put pressure on teams and that has led to many of our recent victories. We are not a team that is going to out slug you but we do all the little things on offense that we need to to put us in position to win ballgames.

You're pitching another great game but the offense was giving me a stroke. How could they not score all those innings? Daniel Cabrera is terrible. At least they finally got you the lead in the 7th though. Now get win number 9,

By the way, it's nice to see Figgins hitting. Two nights in a row he's 3 for 3. That's what the offense needs.

Who is faster, Reggie or Chone?

We'll be out there giving you the background noise in your quest for 10 today, Big John! Give 'em hell!
