Found August 18, 2008 on Lansdowne 9:
1967 was the year of the "Impossible Dream" pennant race in Major League Baseball. In 1967, Yaz won the triple-crown award, the Sox went from last-to-first and reached the World Series, the team consisted of names like Yaz, Williams, Tartabull, Petrocelli, and Scott. On this day 41 years ago, a young phenom they called Tony C stepped up to the plate in Fenway Park. Conigliaro was the future of the Boston Red Sox, the youngest player to reach 100 home runs, the man who clobbered 24 HR's as a 19-year-old rookie, a Revere, MA native, St. Mary's of Lynn graduate and true a Bostonian. Tony C encapsulated what it meant to be a true Red Sox icon. It was this faithful day in which the Sox icon's career was in jeropardy. [...]

Varitek & Heidi Watney in Cahoots?

Is Jason Varitek's personal life affecting his performance on the field? The answer is no. If you haven't heard by now, 'Tek and his wife, Karen, recently split-up after 12 years of marriage. We're hearing the news now, but Varitek filed for divorce about 3 weeks ago. One can make a case that Varitek's struggles at the plate may pertain to his off-the-field...

Worst Endorsement Ever? Dustin Pedroia Now Sells Chunky Salsa

What goes better than chips and salsa during a mid august pennant race? Apparently the marketing gurus behind the Dustin Pedroia Salsa think the answer is "NOTHING!" So they have released Pedroia's Premium Salsa. While this is a fantastic marketing ploy that will probably net Dustin little more than a night out on the town it doesn't quite break into our top 10...

Carl Yastrzemski hospitalized with chest pains

One of the greatest players in Red Sox history, Carl Yastrzemski, was admitted to the hospital today with chest pains. His spokesperson, Dick Gordon, had this to say when asked if the situation was serious: "Any time you are in the hospital, it's got to be pretty serious."

Yaz Hospitalized in Boston

Carl Yastrzemski, one of the best ballplayers to ever grace a Major League uniform, and last player to win the triple-crown award, was hospitalized today at Mass General for what his spokesman says is some chest pains. The following comes from the Boston Herald:

A bit of bad news for Sox fans

I've got a bit of (tongue-in-cheek) bad news for Red Sox fans. Julio Lugo swung a bat (and probably missed) for the first time yesterday since straining his left quadriceps on July 11th. MLB.com gives an estimated return date for Lugo as September 1st. That is the same day that rosters expand, so nobody will have to leave the club for Lugo to rejoin it. All of that is fine...

Dustin Pedroia Salsa: As Awful as it Sounds

Woods and Nike, Beckham and Adidas, Favre and Wrangler. These are just a few athletes forever linked with the products they endorse. Well, it's time to throw the Red Sox' Dustin Pedroia into the endorsement mix. According to The Big Lead, the annoying scrappy 2nd baseman can now be found in your local grocery store [...]

Carl Yastrzemski is in the hospital with chest pains.? Here's hoping he'll be ok. Yaz was my favorite player as a kid (followed very closely by Jim Rice and Dwight Evans).? I'd really like to keep him around for a while longer.

Is Pedroia the best Red Sox 2B ever...?

Lester, Bay lead Sox past O's

Jason Bay had two homers and Jon Lester picthed 7 more solid innings as the Sox beat the O's 6-3 last night.

Coco Crisp shows three balls equals a walk

One umpire considers 3 balls the new walk. In last night's Boston Red Sox-Baltimore Orioles game, Coco Crisp took a 2-2 pitch for a ball, tossed the bat and jogged to first. Even Crisp thought something was wrong, but when you are struggling at the plate like he is; you take what you can get.

Bay breaks out as Lester shuts down Os

Gut Check

Let's be frank, shall we? This was not the greatest weekend for the Sox. After having his start pushed back to yesterday on account of Friday's rainout Paul Byrd lost a decent game to the Blue Jays and Roy Halladay, 4-1. Today's game was much more shameful, with last year's ace Josh Beckett getting lit up for eight runs over two and a third innings before losing 15...
