The next year, at the age of 20, he went 11-7 with a 3.50 ERA and 194 strikeouts in the majors. His was one of the most intriguing starts to a career in recent memory. Where are you now, Rick Ankiel? In case you've missed it, Dwight Gooden-sans-coke-habit went 4-for-5 today for the Memphis Redbirds and has homered in three straight games, totaling 8 RBI in that span.   • There isn't a guy I'm rooting for in sports more than Ankiel. It would be a great story for him and the Cardinals, who have stuck with him throughout this whole thing.
  • Good for him, I'm so glad he turned his career around and didn't dissappear into the horizon. I'd like to see him make the Redbirds as a fifth or sixth outfielder soon.....
  • I hope hitting works out for him, I just hope he doesn't develop another mental problem....He is a fun athlete to watch.
  • I guess you can still have throwing problems in the OF, but I haven't heard one problem there since he made the position switch. Good luck to him. I never thought he'd make it to the Bigs again and nowi it looks like he might make a meaningful contribution at some point.

    Some shots at Ankiel on espn.com but hey I'm glad it's been a good change for him...his story reminds me of chuck knoblauch when he couldn't throw anything within 20ft. of 1st base.
