Well, Tony Pena Jr. is reportedly gone....DFA'd....which hopefully leads to his outright release. He was jettisoned to make room for Alex Gordon coming off the DL. Actually, all it took was dealing one of our top pitching prospects and a throw-in reliever to another AL team for a slightly less crappy SS to get rid of TPJ. After we gave up a promising pitching prospect to get TPJ himself. Great work, there, Dayton. Feather in the cap. Also, Mitch Maier is headed back to Omaha after playing OK defense, from the limited amount I saw, but not getting it done at the plate, to the tune of a .500-.600 level OPS. Another AAAA player, it seems. The Star reports the Royals will send TPJ to Omaha when he clears waivers. Maybe they'll convert him to a reliever like all the TPJ lovers and Royals kool-aid drinkers out there hope they would.AAA - Omaha: Memphis 11, O-Royals 6LF Thorman 3-5, 2 RBI (39), RS -- .2892B Hulett 3-5, 2B (17), 2 K, RS -- .290DH Aldridge 2-5, 3B (2), RBI (41), K -- .296RF ...

Rays get Greinke this time out

After avoiding him in a three-game series at Tropicana Field in early June, the Rays will face Royals stalwart Zack Greinke tonight.

Out to The K and more on Wins-Added

xLater today, I'll be trekking out to the K, where the Royals will be holding their first All-Star break workout. The team has also set up interview sessions with Zack Greinke, Alex Gordon and ... wait for it ... Yuniesky Betancourt. After that, they're giving us a little tour of the new Hall of Fame. So I thought I'd head up and see what's what. I'll report back later. In the meantime...

KC OF Guillen late from Dominican, out of lineup

Royals right fielder Jose Guillen was not on hand for Kansas City's game against Tampa Bay on Friday night because he was late getting back from the Dominican Republic.

Historically Speaking: Guess Who's Back

I've said it before, but the quickness with which these weeks blow by never ceases to amaze me. The Royals return to action this evening with a three-game home series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Post-break lineup moves for Kansas City include optioning Tony Pena, Jr. for assignment, sending Mitch Maier to Omaha, recalling Alex Gordon, activating Yuniesky Betancourt, and a possible...
