After one month of play, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees have an International League leading 19-4 record. They also lead the IL in batting average (.309), runs (170), hits (262), homers (27), doubles (52), RBI (161) and nearly every other offensive category. The pitching staff is also leading the league innings pitched and are second in saves (8) and strikeouts (184). Needless to say, it will likely be another special season for the Scranton Yankees, who are primed to repeat their 2008 success and capture another IL title. Let's take a look at the three best hitters and pitchers after one month of play:Hitters:1. Shelley Duncan - .356/.431/.711 with 9 HR and 28 RBI in 90 AB2. Todd Linden - .361/.434/.608 with 4 HR and 24 RBI in 94 AB3. Austin Jackson - .389/.464/.486 with 0 HR and 7 SB in 72 ABComments: Interestingly, all three of the best Scranton hitters are outfielders. Duncan has put up very impressive numbers this season and has cut down on his strikeout rate. If a big leagu...

Joba's Mom Arrested For Undercover Meth Deal

Parents embarrass their children. It’s what they do. It’s part involuntary generational disconnect, part willful retribution for years of trying to tell a screaming brat what to do. Such embarrassment is usually light-hearted and harmless and often involves white people dancing. There lurks an Option C, however, which has nothing to do with familial dynamics [...]

Just one of the many reasons I hate fantasy baseball

Here is why I hate fantasy baseball. You do research and scouting to try and assemble a team that will carry you to a championship. Problem is, the major league baseball season is 1,000 months long and you can never prepare for the things that will be thrown at you. Case in point, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira. I benched him this week because he has...

John Sterling: A Gaze into the Heart, Soul, and Lungs of Yankees Radio

Most fans of baseball tend to recognize Mel Allen, Phil Rizzuto, or Bob Sheppard as the historical voice of the New York Yankees. For as long as America’s Pastime is continued, cleats, pine tar, bats, and high socks will be as American as hot dogs and apple pie.In the same token, the aforementioned voices of Yankee past will forever be linked to the Bronx as definitively as Babe...

Yankees Forget That They Need Television Cameras

This has got to be one of the more bizarre stories in broadcast television history. Of course it has to involve the New York Yankees, their new stadium with a reported 1,000 obstructed view seats, and an overzealous security guard.Apparently the guard did not like the location of the camera, which had been approved by the Yankees. So she ordered the cameraman to move his camera immediately...

Tyler Hissey writes about the A-Rod book:Well, that did not take long. Former New York Times columnist Selena Roberts found the scoop of her life earlier this winter. Saturday, May 2, 2009 Yanks/Angels recap The Yankees looked half asleep today at least offensively, you can tell CC is starting to get frustrated as the Yankees are 2-4 in his games and the last 2 games he has pitched pretty well with nothing to show for it. He was cruising along today and had a 1-0 lead early but the Yankees couldn't do anything off of Matt...

From Andrew Marchand:"I know where I want to be next year," Damon told 1050 ESPN New York. "I want to be here in New York. I also know New York has a lot of young outfielders coming back.
