Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
New York Mets slugger Gary Sheffield(notes) apparently thinks he's a goner (and soon) from the Mets roster, according to the New York Post. Sheffield apparently is thinking the Mets are going to just put him on waivers and let him go before season's end.
The team actually had him on waivers and took him off when he was claimed by an unidentified team last week. So if the Mets put him on again, it couldn't get anything in return for him.
Still, Sheffield tells the Post he expects to either be wearing another uniform before September ends or not be wearing a uniform at all. The soon-to-be 41-year-old is ready to just pack his things up and go home for the off-season if a team that he doesn't like picks him up.
The Florida Marlins and Texas Rangers are both supposedly looking for somebody like Sheffield, but he says he won't go anywhere that doesn't already have a strong lineup. He doesn't want to end up being a scapegoat. "The light always seems to be on me. I've had that light on me for [my whole career]. I don't need that now," he told the paper.

Let's Get Some Perspective on Sheffield
If you don't mind, I'd like to weigh in briefly on the Sheffield situation.
I read something today by the Post's Joel Sherman that I strongly disagreed with. Let me preface this by telling you that I consider Sherman one of the most worthwhile reads on baseball in the local media.
I know, I know... the above statement got me in trouble with those of you that can'...

The Mets Continue Down the Road of Stupidity
I don't believe for one second that those fans on the BR who read my work would argue with anyone about how passionate I am about this team. It's no secret that I'm not a youngster like my three favorite proteges Mike Kent, Nick Adamo, and Nick Carlo but each one of them will tell you that the Mets are my first love and have been so since 1962.This is not a plug for my...

Sheffield Doesn't Expect To End Year With Mets
Gary Sheffield has already been claimed on waivers and pulled back by the Mets. If they put him on waivers again, they wouldn't be able to prevent teams from claiming him for nothing and clubs would presumably pick up the 40-year-old outfielder and his .856 OPS. Still, Sheffield told Larry Brooks of the New York Post that he doesn't expect to finish the season in New York...

How Did They Think This Would End?
When the Mets signed Gary Sheffield just prior to the 2009 season opener, it seemed pretty clear that their eyes were open. Sheffield, rather than Marlon Anderson, as the team’s final bench bat was an unmistakable upgrade, and costing just $400,000 made it a financially obvious move as well.
But by this past week, it was [...]
